"Hey, sweet girl, can you wake up for me? We're at the beach," Luke whispers in my ear, waking me out of a dead sleep. I groan in response as he rubs my side, coaxing me out of my sleepy state.
"No, I'm so comfy," I complain. I hear a faint chuckle as his hand reaches to remove the blanket from me. "Luke, stop! It's so cold. Please put the blanket back."
"It's warm outside, Mia. Please get up, pretty girl."
"Okay, I will as long as you let me swim today," I respond. He shakes his head, rolling his eyes a little bit.
"Deal, but you can't go too far out."
"But why not?"
"You're 5'2" and you're not that good at swimming, love."
"That's such a lie! I'm 5'3," he rolls his eyes again, "and I'm actually a really good swimmer."
"Oh yeah, your expert swimming skills really came in handy that time you nearly drowned in the shallow end at the community pool."
"I was literally twelve, Luke."
"Well, now you're literally eighteen and I can't let you miss nineteen, so take it or leave it. You're still getting out of my truck, sweetheart, even if I have to carry you."
"Fine, but can you carry me anyway?" I ask with a smile. How could he possibly resist this smile? I'm so precious sometimes.
"If it gets you out of the truck," he says, opening his door to get out. I watch him walk to the passenger side and open my door.
"Hi," I tell him as he unbuckles me.
"Hi. You look like a lion by the way," he replies, picking me up bridal style. That wasn't very nice.
"I'll bite you."
"Whoa, Mia. I didn't know you were into all that furry stuff."
"You're lucky I kinda like you," I respond while he's still laugh at what he said. "Otherwise, I'd beat you up."
"You do realize you're saying that to the guy who's carrying you to our spot on the beach, sweet girl?"
"Yes, and I know he would never hurt me, so it's all good in the hood, Lukey." We make it to our spot and he sets me down on the sand before going back to the truck and grabbing my tote bag out of the backseat. Don't tell anyone I told you this, but his butt is really nice to look at.
As he starts walking back to me, I notice a guy walking up to me. He looks a bit older than me; maybe in his early twenties.
"Hey, how are you?" He asks me. His voice is deep, but not as deep as Luke's.
"I'm good. How are you?" I reply with a small smile.
"I'm alright. Are you here with anybody?"
"Yeah, she is," Luke says, coming up to me with the bag on his shoulder. "Do you know this guy, Mia?"
Luke puts the bag down beside us and wraps his arm around my shoulder. I look up at him. He's kinda adorable right now.
"No, but who doesn't like to make new friends?" I tell him, nodding my head with a smile.
"Yeah, what the little lady here said," the guy responds, looking me up and down.
He seems a little weird, but maybe he's just strange at first.
"So dude, what's your name?" Luke asks, pulling me closer and looking the "dude" up and down.
"Oh yeah, sorry I'm David. And you are?"
"I'm Luke and this is Mia, if you haven't already caught that."
"Nice to meet you, Luke, and even nicer to meet you, Mia," David says.
"Thanks so much," I respond. "Well, we hope you have a great time at the beach today!"
"Oh yeah, thanks. Before I go, could I get your number?" David asks me.
"Oh yeah, bro. I didn't expect you to bat for the other team and I'm not really into that, but sure, I'll give you my number," Luke answers. I can't help but laugh.
"Oh, okay. Well, I'm gonna go. I hope you have fun with your boyfriend here today, Mia," David says before walking off. Why did he think Luke was my boyfriend? And why did Luke act like David wanted his number?
"Luke, why did you do that?"
"Don't worry about it, sweet girl. Go have fun!"
I take off his shirt and my shorts, revealing the hot pink bathing suit I was wearing underneath and run to the water. I look back to see him staring at me with a big smile on his face. He's my best friend in the whole wide world.

I hope you're enjoying the story so far. I don't edit, so if I made a mistake, 🤷♀️
I feel like this chapter was really dialogue heavy, so I'm gonna try to work on adding more narration along with dialogue!
