From The Very Beginning

Chapter Nineteen, Permission

The next morning I woke up early and left and got me and Cami donuts and coffee.

We were leaving today but I was driving us back so we could leave whenever we pleased.

I got back to the hotel room to find Cami sitting on the couch staring at her ring.

"Morning honey."

She turned and smiled at me.

"Morning...oh! Food!"

I gave her a coffee and a donut.

"Zane, I have a question."

"Shoot."

She paused for a moment then let out a sigh.

"Zane I'm old fashioned as you know, so I have to ask, did you ever call my dad?"

I smile.

"Cami I'm old fashioned too and I would never have asked you to marry me without your parents permission. You remember that day when you came to town and I was at the hospital with your Mom?"

She thinks then nods.

"Ok well, right before you came in your Mom told me that I had her and your Dad's permission...at first I had no idea what she was talking about then she explained that it was time we got engaged I laughed but inside I was thinking that maybe I should just ask you."

Cami stares at me in shock and then laughs so much her donut falls out of her hand.

I began to laugh with her.

"I know it sounds crazy!"

She smiles at me and kisses me then wraps her arms around my neck.

"No, it sounds like my parents love you."

I smile at her knowing she's right.

"You think your sister took pictures?"

I laugh.

"My sister takes pictures...of course she did! She probably took a hundred!"

We laugh at this Michelle always takes way too many pictures.

"I'm gonna shower and then we can head out."

"Well I was thinking we should stop by Michelle's and Mike's place and say bye?"

She nods and heads into the bathroom. I start to pack our stuff but leave a pair of shorts and a white tank top with white and tan wedges on the bed.

After Cami gets dressed we head over to my sisters.

"Hey."

Michelle is nowhere to be seen but Mike is in the kitchen doing dishes. I decided to assist him.

"Thanks dude."

"No problem."

Cami wandered off into their bedroom to check on Michelle.

After we finish the dishes they emerge from the bedroom.

"Hey sis."

She smiles at me weakly.

"Hey. OH! Mike, get in here! You two sit on the couch!"

I follow Cami to the couch and sit beside her.

Mike appears from the kitchen and stands beside Michelle.

"So, after thinking and talking it over we've come to a decision."

I stare at Cami and she shrugs.

"We would like for you two to be the godparents."

Cami gasps and lets out a squeal.

I sit shocked.

"WHAT!?"

Cami jumps up and hugs them.

"Wow...thank you guys."

I hug Michelle and then for the first time ever I hug Mike.

He's caught off guard by this and is stiff at first but then he relaxes and hugs me back.

"We wouldn't want anyone else to do it."

Michelle smiles at me and Cami brightly.

"Alright well bye you two. I'm gonna miss you guys! Oh one more thing!"

We are halfway out the door when Michelle yells this out.

"Yes?"

I turn and ask.

"Well...Cami, would you be my bridesmaid?"

Cami turns around with a huge smile across her face reminding me of last night all over again.

I think to myself I will do whatever it takes to always keep that smile on her face.

Mike brings me back to the present by talking to me.

"Zane, will you be my best man?"

I smile at him.

"Yeah."

Cami turns to me and I read her mind then turn back to Mike while she turns back to Michelle.

"Mike, will you be my best man?"

Mike looks shocked.

"Yeah of course man."

"Michelle, will you be my Maid Of Honor?"

I knew Michelle would ask her this considering Michelle has always been Cami's closest friend.

Michelle's face lights up.

"OF COURSE!"

They hug each other again and then they both start crying.

"Oh my..."

Me and Mike can't help but laugh at the two of them.

We say our goodbyes one more time and then we hop on my bike and head for home.
