I was playing outside with Casey when I heard my Mom yelling my name.

I rushed into the house to find Cami standing beside my Mom.

"Hey Cami, what are you doing here?"

My Mom smiled and walked into the kitchen.

"Hey Zane... I was wondering if umm maybe you'd want to go to the school dance with me? Just as friends of course!"

I smiled.

"Of course! Oh wait a second I think I have something going on that night. Let me ask my Mom real quick!"

I raced into the kitchen.

"Mom, don't we have some sort of plans on the school dance night?"

My Mom looked at me and smiled.

"Yes honey, but if you'd rather Michelle could drive you and Cami to the dance."

I thought about this for a moment.

"What are the plans? I can't remember."

My Mom laughed.

"The party for your Father getting promoted, his work friends are throwing it for him."

"Ok, Michelle can drive us to the dance! Thanks Mom, love you!"

I raced back to Cami.

"I can go to the dance! Michelle will drive us."

Cami smiled.

"You wanna stay for dinner?"

"Sure!"

For the next hour me, Cami, and Casey played basketball outside while my Mom cooked dinner.

"DINNERS READY!"

We all raced each other into the kitchen. Cami won and Casey got last place. I was in second place.

We all had assigned seats at the dinner table and lately only four of them were used.

Tina was at college, and Michelle had a job at the local diner so she often worked past dinner time.

Everyone sat down and ate the delicious pot roast my Mom had made.

After dinner we got to drive Cami back to her parents house.

This was always fun because me and Cami would play I Spy in the back seat or sometimes we'd play banana.

"Bye Zane!"

"Bye Cami!"

I moved up to the front seat and my Mom smiled down at me.

"So you're going to the dance huh?"

"Yep. It'll be cool."

That night I fell asleep fast dreaming about the dance.

Two weeks later it was the dance date I was already dressed and ready waiting downstairs for Mrs. Sanchez to drop of Cami.

Michelle was yet to come home this worried me because if she didn't get home soon me and Cami would be stuck here and miss the dance.

Someone knocked on the door and I opened it to see Cami in a purple dress with matching purple sandals and her curly hair was swept to the side in a braid.

"Wow you look amazing!"

Cami smiled brightly.

"So do you!"

I was wearing a blue button down with khakis and tennis shoes.

I peeked out the front door and there was still no Michelle.

We spent the next two hours playing games, watching a movie, and talking about what all the other kids were doing at the dance.

Three hours later Michelle finally showed up, not that it mattered we'd already missed the whole dance.

Turns out Michelle completely forgot that was this week and thought it was next week.

She showed me her calendar and sure enough she had it put in for next week.

But even though we were upset we missed the dance we still had a blast even just sitting at home with no one else around.
