=PROLOGUE=
=-=Eight Years Ago=-=
I crawled into my brother's lap, drowsily."Eitiene, when will mommy and daddy come back? They've been gone for five hours, almost," I yawned, curling up against him. He sighed.
"I don't know. They've been fighting that vampire for a while," he explained. Vampires. My eyes shot open as the huge dark wood doors burst open, wind flooding into the mansion. The lights went out, and Eitiene alarmingly stood up, pulling out a vampire-hunters sword. I was only 7, and he was three years older-but our vampire-hunter parents had taught him all of the proper techniques for protecting himself against vampires. They never trained me. A tall, elegant figure glided into our mansion, blood stains covering her long, flowy, snow-white dress. Her messy hair slowly calmed down, resting upon her shoulders. She smirked, landing on the ground nonchalantly. The heavy winds blew into the mansion, knocking down vases and frames. The shattering of glass made me want to cringe. She gorgeously made her way over to me, taking my chin in her hands."My, my, what do we have here?" She said, studying me. I stared her straight in the eyes, showing no sign of fear, although I was scared out of my mind. "Mmm, beautiful...tasty, indeed," she seductively licked her lips, coming in close to my neck. My eyes widened. I would become a vampire, if she were to drink my blood. But I knew for sure that she'd kill me if I flinched. But dying is better than being a vampire...
My brother ran up to the vampire lady screaming violently, and jabbed the vampire-hunter sword into her side. Her eyes widened, but then she pulled out the sword, licking the blood calmly. Eitiene backed away, grabbing my hand. The lady smirked.
"Not so fast, little boy. Maybe you would be a better vampire than Crimson," she giggled, snatching my brother effortlessly into her arms. I leap onto the vampire lady and slash at her with my nails I don't have any weapons-they're forbidden at my age. The woman bats me to the side and I fly across the room and bash into the wall. I try to get up, grasping the wall handles hurriedly.
"How do you know my name, lady? Let him go!" I commanded. I reached for Eitiene, but the woman floated high in the air, landing on the chandelier.
"Well, your crimson hair says it all, Crimson," she winked, slowly putting Eitiene into a trance. "I'll never let this boy go. He's mine now. My vampire son," she cackled, sinking her fangs into Eitiene's neck.
"No!" I cried out, tears streaming down my face. Eitiene was the most important thing in my life to me. His eyes widened, and closed quickly, blood staining his baby-blue clothing. I ached to do something, but I was not yet trained properly. The woman greedily slurped his blood, and elegantly landed on the ground.
"Do not worry my dear, Crimson," the woman kissed the top of my head. I stood there awestruck, unable to help my brother-or do anything. "You two will meet again one day," she assured me. With that, she sped out of the mansion, into the air, and away. I chased after Eitiene.
"Eitiene! Don't do this to me! You're my brother, I love you!" I screamed uselessly. I glanced down to find my mother and father sprawled out on the ground, covered in sticky, vibrant blood."Mama? Papa?" I quietly murmured, tears slowly drenching my clothing. My grandfather came in out of nowhere, and put his hands on my shoulders.
"Grandpa, what are you doing here?" I asked. Another surprise was one too many. He simply shook his head. Grandfather was a vampire too-but he didn't terrify me. I knew that he'd never hurt me. I'd always known Eitiene and I were adopted. But we've never met our birth parents. Grandfather wasn't blood related, but he was once a human. He took me in his arms, leading me into the air.
"We're going home now, child," he commanded. I stared back at mother and father, desperately. I reached for their restful bodies, the wind batting my hand away. My old home faded in the distance. So did Mother and Father. Grandfather also told me to forget completely about Eitiene. He was gone, although we would meet in the future. Eitiene would be different.Much different.
