Two years ago (Sophmore year of high school)

I sat in the corner in the kitchen waiting for Vance to return so we can leave this party. If I could leave myself I would, but he was my ride here and my ride home. The music shook the entire house and blared loud enough for the next ten blocks to hear. Some girl and boy that looked identical to each other sat in front of me offering me a liquid in a red cup. I shook my head, declining the alcohol. They nodded and began talking with each other.

Glancing back at them every now and then I took in their features. Their dark complexity was shimmering in the lights due to the sweat they both were drenched in. Their dark orbs for eyes almost looked as if they were black, and dirty blonde hair that curled perfectly.

It's been twenty minutes where is he?

Deciding to text him a girl wearing all black and piercings in her lips, ears, and nose came up and pulled me off the chair. Dragging me through the crowded rooms of others dancing on each other and making out. Despite all my protests, she didn't stop until we were at the top of the stairs. She pointed to the closed door.

Hesitating, I slowly opened the door. My heart seized while my stomach dropped to the floor. My boyfriend was in here having a threesome. With my sister and her best friend. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing down as I kept a sob from erupting from my throat. Closing the door I didn't dare stop the tears now.

How did I not notice? How could I have been so blind to it? Why is this happening?

I felt my head spinning as I stood there silently crying. The girl came over and put her hand on my shoulder and wiped my tears off my soaked cheeks. Her voice had that kind of tone making me aware she's deaf. "I thought you should know the truth."

I nodded and used my hands to communicate with her, 'Thank you for letting me know. I'm tired though so I'm going to go home. Thank you.'

She smiled softly, 'Very rare to find people who hear use sign language. Do you have a way home?'

I shook my head and she yet again started pulling me through the crowds and out of the house. She led me to a Jeep and opened the passenger door. 'Hop in, I'll take you home. You can put your address in my GPS.'

'Thank you, but you don't have to do this.'

She gave me a glare and shook her head, 'And let a heartbroken girl walk home, not happening. Get in'

I chuckled softly and nodded.

The ride home was silent, and I was okay with that. I didn't really feel like talking anyway. She kept glancing over at me staring out the window. We pulled out to my house with my older brother standing outside with his arms crossed and a very pissed-off expression. Sighing I turned and thanked her again. She nodded and got out of the car with me.

She walked up to my brother and shook his hand which he returned. Following her I avoided making eye contact with him. He tapped my shoulder making me give him it anyway. "Why the did I get a call from Vance that you were not at the party you left with him too?!"

"He-"

'He cheated on her.' The girl was quick to defend me. 'I was taking her home because she needs to be here not at the party heartbroken and waiting for the one who broke something so precious.'

My brother nodded and sighed. Bringing me in for a hug he whispered an apology. Returning his embrace I began to cry again this time letting the sob out as I stood there in his arms.

After my second crying session, I turned to thank her once more. 'Oh, what is your name?'

She smiled brightly, 'Echo, yours?'

'Callie. This is my brother, Kyle.'

The next day was just as full of drama that I never wanted to be in. I explained everything to Kyle. He has spent the last three hours jumping down Seirra's throat for sleeping with Vance. She has given me multiple death glares by now that I no longer care at this point how mad she is at me for snitching.

Having enough of the fighting, I went to my room and changed into my baby blue running outfit and grabbed my earbuds. Leaving the house I ran to the park right blocks away to sit under my favorite Willow tree.

Memories of the night before replayed in my head as I broke down in tears again until my lack of sleep last night took over.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Opening my eyes I was blinded by the sun. Groaning I kept them closed. I felt like I was in a vehicle.

Oh my gosh am I being kidnapped? Kyle will kill me.

"Oi, kidnapper. Do me a favor and spare my life by dropping me off home."

"Open your eyes, Cal." My brother chuckled.

"Kyle! Thank god you're the one kidnapping me. I thought for sure you'd kill me if you found out I was taken by a stranger."

"Sierra, Vance, and Echo are here too."

I fell silent no longer wanting to talk, instead, I waited for the next stop he made and got out of the car smalling the door shut. I heard them call my name out, but I chose to ignore them. I flipped off the car and took off running down the street until my lungs and legs gave out.

I'm...lost. I got no idea where I am. And I left my phone in the car. Welp, this is going to be fun.

Walking around for what seemed to be hours I found myself in a tunnel with graffiti all over it. Looking at it I found peace and beauty in it. My hand brushed against one in particular of a broken heart with stitches in it. It was black and blue from bruises with blood dripping down it. A knife sticking out from the back of it.

"Like it?" I spun around to see a guy with paint on his shirt. It was still dark enough in the tunnel to make out much of anything else.

Nodding I looked back at it. "Looks like my heart right now."

"It'll be okay, you'll find someone who cherishes you and won't leave your heart like that."

I didn't realize how much I needed those words, yet it didn't feel like it made much of a difference. I looked back at him and smiled. "Got somewhere I can go for the night?"

I saw the light shine barely through a hole in the wall where he put his hand out for me to grab. Grabbing it I followed him out of the tunnel now able to see him fully. He looked older, strong, and very big. He stood easily shy of six foot five with muscles I could see through his shirt. He was bald with tattoos covering his head, back, arms, and hands. He turned to face me, his emerald eyes smiled as much as his actual smile.

"So, what's a little thing like you doing way out here?"

"It's a long story." He nodded not pushing any further. "I'm Callie."

"People call me Dark."

"Strange name but okay."

After about thirty minutes of walking, he came in front of this huge abandoned warehouse. Going in I watched as many people that looked tough stared at me like a piece of meat. Dark pulled me closer to him as we continued walking. There was a door which he did a rhythmic knock. Entering before a response I followed him once again.

Walking in I saw a girl similar to him, slightly younger with long wavy blonde hair. She smiled at him. "Brother, who is this?"

So they're siblings that clears that up.

"Her name is Callie, I found her admiring your artwork in the tunnel."

"Thats yours?!" I immediately covered my mouth in embarrassment. She laughed and nodded. "It's beautiful, the heart I mean. I don't know how many pieces you've made. But in all its really beautiful, such a shame a lot of people don't see it."

She blushed lightly and smiled. "Thank you, Dear. The name is Shadow. I'm guessing my brother didn't tell you this is our Mafia?"

I shook my head. "He said it might be better hearing it from you."

She nodded. "Come take a seat and I'll explain everything."
