ELIJAH WAS STRIDING towards the house when the smell of blood hit his nostrils. It was sweet, and something about it called for him.
It was purely out of instinct that he decided to follow that scent, which eventually led him to the body of a girl. Her hair glistened under the faint light, and her face was pale, paler than any human who was meant to survive.
He crouched next to her, and his hand pushed away the few strands of hair on her face. "What has happened to you?"
She was only a few steps away from the house. Somebody laid her out there, leaving her for the dead. The smell of her blood was intoxicating, he was sure that if he hadn't been as old as he was, he would have not been able to resist finishing her, drawing the last bit of blood in her system.
Her faint heartbeat told him that she was still alive, barely though. His eyes lingered longer on her form, seeing the satin dress soaked with her blood.
Elijah had always prided himself in being a gentleman, but the dress did nothing to hide her beauty. It was enthralling. On a normal day, he might have not noticed her, but as she lay there it was hard not to pay attention to her every single detail.
And the red of her blood added to her beauty.
The thought was disturbing even for him, but perhaps red was really her color. Her heart skipped a beat, then her voice came weak and broken as she ordered him. "Help me."
Her eyes weren't even open, but it was almost like she sensed his presence. At least that was what Elijah thought.Part of him was amused at the sight of her, and while he knew he should get in there and be done with the doppelganger matter, he also wanted to see this beauty lying there. "And how do you propose I do that?"
There was a hint of amusement in his tone. However, just the sound of his voice renewed the hope in Rosalyn's heart. "I guess God's still looking out for me." She whispered to herself.
"I'm afraid I'm not God." She heard his voice again, and this time she wondered why he was finding her near-death state so fun.
It was the last bit of her energy, so she gathered all that was left in her and whispered, "But you'll have to do."
She was just tired, so very tired, and maybe frightened out of her mind. The entire night was nothing but a nightmare, a bad horror movie from the sixties.
It was when her vision blurred that she knew that she was facing her end. Not in her wildest dreams nor scariest nightmares had she thought about dying from a bite. The idea of vampires had never crossed her mind, and despite living in Mystic Falls and hearing some things about the history and tales of the town, she never really cared to believe nor consider.
Her final thought was simple, and in a way very peaceful. “I think I can finally sleep.”
Elijah had never thought himself to be God, nor did he care much of who lived or died so long as they weren't part of his family. However, something told him that she's worth living. In his thousand plus years he had never shared his blood, but in a split second decision, he took of his suit jacket, putting it on his knees, then rolled the sleeve of his shirt up and bit into it. He put his bleeding wrist on her lips, tilting her head slightly to make sure his blood went to her system.
He made sure she took in every last drop until his wound healed. "I may not know anything about you, but for some reason you're worth saving." Elijah whispered softly then her stood up, wore his jacket, and gave her body one final glance before he left her lying there.
Elijah didn't know how this girl fit into the doppelganger, and Rose and Trevor situation. But he didn't care to know, because he was finally getting something her desperately wanted.
