Ellie POV
Ellie: What the hell guys?! We just left him there!
Tess: So what? We made it out of there, that's all that counts.
Ellie: He was supposed to be our greatest help, remember?
Tess: We can do that on our own.
Ellie: I highly doubt that.
Tess: If you believe that one dude would've helped us shred through an army of Negan's men and get to the Fireflies, you're wrong.
Ellie: I don't know if we would "shred" through anything, but we would at least have a better chance of not getting killed the moment we'll set foot into the enemy's area.
Tess: I don't care. We made it out and that's the only thing that counts. If you have a problem with that, well, too bad. There's no way back now.
Ellie: I could just jump out and run back.
I threatened which made Joel finally say something.
Joel: You're staying right here. Don't even think about leaving this truck.
Ellie: We don't have a chance to get to Fireflies without him!
I said, raising my voice and clenching my fists in anger.
Joel: What are we supposed to do?
He asked, raising his hands.
Joel: We can't go back, they'll shoot us on sight.
Ellie: We shouldn't have run away in the first place.
Tess: Yes, we should have and I'm glad that I stepped on the pedal, because if I didn't we wouldn't have this conversation at all, or in a jail cell.
Ellie: He would've handled it.
Tess: Yeah, no, he would not.
Ellie: You were against him since the very first time you saw him, didn't expect you to say something different.
Tess: When you get as old as me, you'll learn to not trust strangers. Especially strangers that kick your gate in and break into your house.
Ellie: Oh, come on, how the fuck was that a break in?
Joel: Ellie...
Ellie: What?
Joel: Calm down.
Ellie: No. And no, Tess. I won't learn not to trust strangers, because I'll never get as old as you, and I'm glad that I won't.
I spat out, making everyone go silent, the only thing that I was hearing was the engine of the truck that kept going through all the dirt and mud in our way.
We kept driving, saying absolutely nothing. This went on quite a while until an explosion from the front broke the silence.
Tess: Fuck!
She cussed and punched the steering wheel in frustration.
Joel: What was that?
Tess: Something exploded and tore through one of the front tires.
Joel: Shit...must be one of the many mines.
Ellie: Great, now we have to continue on foot.
I complained, getting out of the back of the truck but immediately getting pulled back by Joel.
Joel: Stay!
Ellie: What? Why?
Joel: Just stay inside, this place is probably full of mines.
Ellie: So we'll just stay here and do nothing?
Joel: No, I will go out and look around the area, maybe I'll find something.
Tess: I'll come with you, let's have a little look around.
Joel: Be careful.
He warned her as he climbed out of the truck, before they both wandered off and left me alone in this damn truck.
Great, what am I supposed to do? Just sit and wait for them? Who knows how long they're gonna take to "look around" the area.
With boredom torturing me, I picked up one of the pistols and put a clip in it, making it ready, just to be sure.
Not too long after that, I heard growling coming from the woods.
"Shit..."
I whispered to myself and tightened the grip around my pistol.
They came closer to the truck, one of them must've triggered a mine, since I heard the same explosion that I heard back then before the truck stopped.
I saw them coming from all sides, but they were still far enough away.
Seeing them slowly surrounding the truck, I knew I had to do something to have a chance for an escape, so I bolted out of the truck and ran past them as fast as I could.
One of them was able to scratch me, but it's not like that would bother me too much.
After smacking its head with my pistol, it went to the ground, allowing me to run past it.
I just ran without looking back, when I finally did, the truck was already far away, which means I successfully made a lot of distance between me and all those weapons that we'll probably never get back now.
All of this was for nothing, literally nothing.
The only thing we did was to leave our safe base, betray our new ally and lose everything that we stole, leaving us with nothing to defend ourselves with.
I had no idea where Joel or Tess were and I don't think I'll be able to get to them since I ran in the opposite direction.
The whole path was flooded by walkers, so I had no chance to get to Tess and Joel, unless I march through the forest, but I assume it should be full of traps and undead, so there is a very slim probability of me actually making it through that.
We passed a little town while we were on the truck, it wasn't the safest town, but it would suffice.
This would be the safest place around here, besides our old base, but obviously, I can't go back there.
I set off to the town, thinking about how things are back at the old base.
Did they make a deal? Did they fight? Is anyone still alive? Well, "anyone" should definitely be alive, but I don't think it's Y/N.
Hours passed and I finally arrived at the town, after looking through the building, in an attempt to find anything useful but failing, I went to the bar in pure frustration and hopelessness.
I sat down on one of the many old, cracking stools and poured in some strong stuff in a glass.
I guess this will be one of those many lonely nights, where I drink myself to sleep, well...some things never change.
Tomorrow will be a better day, it has to be...at least I hope so.
