Y/N POV

I walked through the broken gate, passing a bunch of dead, charred bodies that were alive just a minute ago.

They just shouldn't have fucked with me...why would anyone do that anyway? I'm the good guy, I'm a fucking hero that's trying to help them.

Or at least that's what I've been telling them.

I don't give a shit about the cure, I just want to get the fuck out of here and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I could see the tire tracks of the truck that bailed out of here and left me behind.

They took a path through the forest and now I'll have to follow the tracks until they stop, which will take a while since I'm sure they drove quite a lot.

After hours of following the trail, I arrived at a small village, it may be small but it's not too badly protected.

I'm sure that whoever lived here before was no beginner and has experience when it comes to reinforcing a city and fighting off the undead.

This city was quiet, not just quiet but completely silent as if nobody was here.

There was only one thing that broke the silence...the ringing of a nearby phone.

I knew what it meant, so I stormed into the building where the ringing came from.

My gaze followed the sound and fell upon a black, old phone, to which I rushed over to and picked up immediately.

Y/N: Yes?

Patriot: You've made it to the city, good job.

Y/N: I have no fucking clue where Ellie and the others are, which means I'm not even one step closer to victory, how the fuck is this a "good job"?

Patriot: Ellie is closer than you think.

Y/N: Then tell me where she is.

Patriot: Ben, I'm not an all-seeing eye. I can't tell you every little detail.

Y/N: You know how to get me out of here but you don't know where to find the girl?

Patriot: I know all of this because Stormfront told me, I wouldn't know a thing without her. I'm trying my best to help you here.

Y/N: If I'm getting out of here, Homelander is getting his ass beat, that I can promise.

Patriot: Yes, but let's focus on finding the girl first. You need to bring her to the Fireflies.

Y/N: What do I do when they make the cure?

Patriot: Nothing, the portal Homelander threw you in, will close. This is just a simulation after all. And it will crash if the cure is created.

Y/N: And why would the simulation crash if I would cause the creation of the cure?

Patriot: Because that would mean an end to the undead apocalypse, so this simulation is of no use anymore.

Y/N: What was the use of this shit anyway?

Patriot: Homelander used to throw in people that didn't agree with him or that he didn't like. They were supposed to be killed by the undead or the many psychopaths roaming this place. If you find a cure, this epidemic will end and that was never intended to happen.

Y/N: If this was never intended, why have an immune girl in this simulation?

Patriot: One of many Mr. Edgar's doings to outsmart Homelander.

Y/N: Oh yeah, Edgar. How's he holding up?

Patriot: I haven't heard anything from him since his speech on the stage. You must keep in mind that not even a day has passed in the real world.
