All five of the kids pulled their heads back into their respective tents. Back in their tents, both groups talked about what they thought they should do. The girls weren't able to come up with any kind of plan at all. The boys decided it would be best to try to create a distraction, then make a run for it.
Mark stuck his head out of the tent and half whispered, half spoke hoping the girls would hear him. "I'm going to use our lighter to light a stick on fire and throw it towards the Bigfoot. If it backs up or retreats at all, run!"
Ruth unzipped the girls' tent every so slightly "Okay" she responded.
Mark took the lighter out of his backpack, unzipped their tent and reached for the nearest stick he could reach. He lit the stick on fire, let it burn for a little bit so the flames had definitely taken hold, then threw the stick as hard as he could in the direction of the Bigfoot. It seemed to work, the Bigfoot backed up a good 30 to 40 feet. At that, both of the boys and all three of the girls burst out of their tents and started running.
Matthew looked back a last time to see if the Bigfoot was chasing them. It wasn't. That made him a little curious. Why wasn't it chasing them? Had it wanted them to make a run for it for some reason? His questions were answered very quickly. As the group reached the far end of the clearing from where the Bigfoot was, just as they were about to start into the woods, Matthew caught a glimpse of something coming towards them from the trees they were about to run into.
A tad bit too late, he realized it was the Chupacabra they had seen before. It grabbed him as the group reached the tree line. Ruth hesitated when she saw the creature grab Matthew. The others didn't even slow down however. "Matthew!" she screamed out.
"Ruth, keep going, don't stop, make sure the others..." was all he managed to get out before the Chupacabra tore out his throat. Ruth froze in horror. Just then she heard a swooshing sound above her head. She looked up just in time to see the Mothman descending towards her. She tried to start running again, but found herself frozen in terror. As the Mothman descended on her, its talons dug deep into her chest and pierced her heart. She was dead almost instantly.
Mark, Mary and Jane continued running for their lives. "A Chupacabra, the Jersey Devil, Mothman, Bigfoot, Skunk Ape, what the hell is going on here" Mark gasped as he continued to run "are we caught in some kind of real life Cabin In The Woods thing or something?"
"What is Cabin In The Woods?" asked Jane.
"Seriously?" Mark asked, a little bit astounded. "Someone like you doesn't know about Cabin In The Woods? It was a horror movie where a bunch of teenagers went camping up in the mountains and ended up getting killed off by a bunch of movie monsters by what ended up being some cult like group trying to avoid the apocalypse by sacrificing the kids to monsters."
"Yup, definitely never saw that one!" Jane responded. "How did it end?"
"The virgin and the nerd survived by finding the entrance to the cult's compound and releasing all of the monsters which ended up killing the members of the cult and most of each other as well."
"That should mean Jane and I are good!" Mark said with a dry smirk on his face.
"Fuck you Mark!" Mary yelled back.
"Hey guys, instead of fighting, how about we focus on trying to get out of here!" Jane said.
The three continued to run as fast as they could. After a few more minutes of running, Jane noticed some sort of facility up ahead. "Well, if this is anything like that movie you mentioned, that is probably where we need to go. Although it really wasn't difficult to find at all." Jane said.
