Harlem POV
Today is a day I was hoping would never come. The day I have to move in with my new step family. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if it wasn't for my stepbrother Killian. We've only seen each other on occasional dinners but thats it and he's never really talked to me on his own. I'm certainly not starting a conversation with him because he's terrifying. He's around 6'4 and on the hockey and football team so obviously strong. Even though I'm twelve I'm still only 5'.
"Harlem let's go" My dad called out for me. I grabbed the last of my stuff and headed out to the truck. We sold most of our things like furniture since we didn't need them anymore so we got a bit of extra money from that.
"How about instead of moping your new family; you actually get to know them, especially Killian" Dad encouraged.
"Dad he doesn't like me" I argued.
"I'm sure y'all will find common ground somewhere." My dad rebutted.
"If you say so" I saidWe didn't talk for the rest of 45 minute drive. We finally got to the house. It was a pretty nice house tbh. They had a really nice kitchen and living room with this huge window.
I grabbed my backpack with little stuff in it like electronics and my medications. I have to take medication for my adhd and parasomnia.
My parasomnia is my biggest concern when it comes to sharing my room. I just don't want to be more of a bother to Killian than I have to be.
"Hey loser, we moved a bed in my room for you. Its on the right when you walk in." Killian explained. He was being nicer than usual. By that, I mean he was actually talking to me. Usually he's off to the side on his phone. I suppose he and I have to get used to each other given we're sharing a room now.
I took my bags in the room and the room was kind of cool. The wall in front of the door was an accent wall being navy blue and the rest of the room was dark grey. Killian had a king size bed on the right of the room and I had a full size bed on the other side. I didn't really care cause I don't really want a huge bed anyways.
I quickly hide my medication because it's really none of Killian's business.I'm obviously aware that it would be nearly impossible hiding my parasomnia. Thats why I'll try sleeping in the upstairs hangout spot for awhile. They have this living room type of area right when you get up the stairs.
Killian suddenly walked in whilst I was putting my clothes away and shut the door behind him. "Hey I don't give a damn that we're sharing rooms. That does not mean we are going to be all lovey dovey. I'm not your brother as you're not mine. Got it." He told me in a cold tone. I knew he was gonna act like this eventually. "Yeah Killian. I'll stay on this side and you'll stay on that side." I agreed with him.
I got done putting my clothes away and went on to organizing my puzzles. I love collecting puzzles. I arranged them either by genre then difficulty. I usually keep my puzzles completed for about a week to a month. My dad had the first one I completed framed because I did it with my grandpa.
"You're not converting this room to a star wars convention. How many of these dumbass puzzles do you have anyway?" He asked
"112 total. Only 46 star war ones though. But a few are just space themed. The rest are just from different things I liked at one point." I explained
"You're way more of a loser than I had taken you for" He said getting on his bed and looking at his phone."You got a place to go when our parents go on their honeymoon?" Killian asked.
"This house. Why?" I answered.
"Because I may throw a party or something at one point and I can't have a little kid here during it." He said.
"I'm not a little kid, 13 actually and you cant throw a party here. What if our parents find out? What if someone gets hurt? What if someone sleeps on my bed?" I spiraled.
"You're 13? The billion puzzles and the fact that your 3 feet tall must've thrown me off. It's not like those parties you see in movies. It's gonna be like 20 of us that will probably be drunk which is exactly why you can't be there." He said.
"Still someone can come in here and mess up not only mine but your stuff." I retorted.
"I'll lock your shit in the basement the night I have the party if it will make you happy and so you'll keep your mouth shut to our parents." He said
"Fine" I replied. There was no point in arguing about it anymore. He was gonna do it anyways.-----------------------
