As we get to the house, we refuse to knock on the door, knowing well that it's gonna take Nick a lifetime to open it. Luckily George had keys, so we didn't have to wait.
It's always a mystery how Nick manages to spawn in the hallway in milliseconds right when he hears someone pushing a key into the lock, but it always takes him hours to react when we knock.
He looks happy and confused seeing the three of us together.
"Oh you're here. And I was calling to tell you to not take the elevator," Nick speaks, "apparently some idiots broke it."
"It was in a bad condition!" Anastasia snaps back immediately. She probably thought Nick knew that they were the ones who broke it, "And you're an idiot."
Nick breaks down laughing. It's not that funny, but apparently it's very funny to him, "Wait, don't tell me you broke it."
"It was him," Ana points back at George with her thumb, the confidence in her voice enough to make both my and Nick's heads turn to look at George.
He shrugs, looking unfazed with the sudden attention he is getting, "Yeah, it was me."
I'm not sure why it even mattered who broke it, but as long as Anastasia looks satisfied, I guess it matters.
"Have you seen my charger?" She looks at Nick after scanning every single outlet with her eyes.
"Is it the one that's got nail polish on it?" Nick bites the corner of his lip and starts rubbing the side of his arm awkwardly.
"Where is it?" I can tell Anastasia suspects that Nick broke it from his body language. And to be fair, he looks suspicious.
"I'm charging my airpods with it."
The way he says it so proudly.
"Your fake airpods?" Anastasia snaps, sounding hilariously disgusted.
"They're not fake!"
"Yeah, that's why they give a fucking lightshow every time you use them," George and I laugh quietly at Ana's words as Nick rolls his eyes and leaves to bring the charger.
He takes too long for whatever reason, and meanwhile, Anastasia goes to make herself coffee, leaving me alone with George.
And speaking of George. He looks like he's been waiting for them to leave us alone for a while now.
"We need to talk," he speaks immediately.
"Not now," I shake my head.
"When?"
"Maybe later."
"Whenever you're free," I'm surprised by George's demeanor. Why is he being so calm and respectful all of a sudden?
"I'll text you then," with my words, a small smile emerges on his face. I feel bad for ignoring him, but he still pisses me off for some reason.
Well, there are many reasons, but he's not that annoying today, I'll give him that.
Soon Anastasia and Nick appear at the same time, with her holding a cup of coffee, and him - the charger. The first thing she does is is snatching the charger harshly and inspecting it, going as far as connecting her phone to it to see if it still works. Lucky for Nick, it does.
The silence was so loud that I'd be more comfortable if we left at that point, but looks like Ana has to drink her coffee first.
I sensed that she was looking for a place to sit so I patted the spot next to me, which wasn't that generous of a space, cause George took the couch and I was left with the armchair. But she took it happily, almost squashing my thigh.
My thighs and her ass alone are almost too big for this, just imagine them combined.
Then the silence broke with the sounds of the ice cubes against the glass as she started to drink her coffee.
"Can I have a sip?" Nick swallows, looking at the glass with greedy eyes.
Anastasia sighs, handing it to him without a word. And then she pinches the side of his arm, realizing that the "sip" was more of a mega-gulp, which emptied half of the cup.
I couldn't help but feel the sadness of the nostalgic feeling creeping over me. It hurts me to think that just a few days ago this was normal - seeing them fight over something like siblings and having to interfere so that they didn't rip each other's hair off.
I miss being here. Maybe I'm the one who ruined it.
"We can go," Ana puts the glass on the table, "now that I don't have anything to drink." She shoots a glare at Nick. And one can tell that he has no regrets.
"You can stay..." the confidence in George's voice is nonexistent. Which is a rare thing.
"Why? Are you leaving?" And Ana's answer explains why.
I've never seen her this brutal before. Wonder what happened in the elevator.
I don't even want to know.
I do, but then I don't.
"Let's go," I sigh, standing up quickly before anything goes wrong. And with the aggression she puts into chewing her gum, I bet things can go downhill in a second if we stay for any longer, "your charger." I remind her, and she goes back to get it.
"Will you come back?" Nick whispers to me, and I shrug, "When?" He continues.
"I don't know, Nick," my voice is low.
"I miss you," he's just breaking my heart at this point.
I sigh, "I miss you too, brother."
Well. We left.
And now it's time for the torturous walk.
I could tell she wasn't in a good mood as well. She hasn't said a word, and I couldn't help but feel guilty. It's not her fault things aren't going great. It's probably my fault.
I'm starting to blame myself more and more.
"Are you cold?" I try to distract both of us, turning my head to look at her after hearing the sound of her hands rubbing against each other.
"My fingers are frozen," she holds them up for me to see the redness, "they're numb."
I take a look at her clothes and see that she doesn't have pockets. I hope she doesn't mind if I share mine with her.
I hesitantly hold my hand out for her to take, and she does it confidently. Intertwining our fingers I almost wince from how cold her skin feels against mine and place both our hands in my pocket.
"What about this one?" She holds her other hand up, face visibly softer than it was moments ago.
"We'll switch once this one's warmed up."
Her smile makes me so happy.
"Sorry that I left without telling you. My phone was dead, and I couldn't find your charger, so I went to bring mine." She explains, but in all honesty, she didn't need to address anything.
"Hey, don't apologize," I squeeze her hand reassuringly. It was getting warmer, by the way, "sorry that I left you alone. Shouldn't have left."
"No, it's okay. We both needed some alone time, I think."
And then the silence comes back again. She silently takes her hand out of my pocket, and my heart drops. But then she runs to my other side and sneaks the other hand inside.
Never thought I'd be so sad and happy at the same time.
