What if Shinichi didn't wake up to the police after he shrunk? What if a passerby, that has no connection to him, found him first, assumed him an abused kid, and took him in? And what if what happened traumatized him so badly that he lost his voice...
So~ Yeah. This is an idea I just had recently and decided to actually put up.
I'm still gonna update True Happiness, don't worry. This is like a side fic, one that I'll probably update more often than TH since it needs less effort due to not having to go by the canon cases much, if at all, with how Shinichi doesn't end up in the agency and everything.

Necessary details and reminders:-
1- Traumatic mutism: A disorder that is like selective mutism, except that the person diagnosed can't talk in any situation or with anyone after the trauma. Though, like selective mutism, they will start talking if they get completely comfortable but only with the person they trust and feel comfortable with.
Basically, when Shinichi in this story realizes what happened, the shock will make him mute and he won't talk at all until the OC gains his complete trust and makes him comfortable again. (Hint to a future completely wholesome moment OvO)
2- Edogawa Conan doesn't exist: Shinichi is still gonna get an alias, but it'll be the OC that will give him a name as he can't talk, so it won't be Edogawa Conan but instead a more Japanese last and first name. (You'll need to read to find out what it is. ÒwÓ)
3- No Sleeping Kogoro: Shinichi doesn't go to his house and meet Agasa so he doesn't end up in the agency or with gadgets to solve cases, so Kogoro is gonna be the drunk guy we know and love without being famous as Sleeping Kogoro (He'll still get business since he's a private detective that can be hired not like Shinichi so...)
4- No Ran moments: Again, no agency life, so no Ran. (I might make them bump into each other or make him see her somewhere though)
5- No canon cases: Already said the reason for this one, but again, he isn't staying at the agency so the canon cases don't happen (He's obviously still a murder magnet though so-)
The only canon case that I know will still happen is the one with the Italian robbers, but other than that don't expect much canonicity.
6- Detective Boys: Pretty sure you guessed it from the last one, but Shinichi is still gonna go to Teitan, though he obviously won't be the same since he can't talk, and the kids will still try to befriend him (By "kids" I obviously mean Ayumi XD)
He will have a harder time with them though since he can't talk so...

Name: Yukinawa Yoru (pronounced Yo-roo)
Meaning: Darkness, but it's also connected to the idea of hope. (Reason for the book name)
Age: 19 years old
Occupation: College/University Student, studies criminology. (You see where this is going? OwO) + part-time waitress (She needs to get the money from somewhere-)
Personality: Kind, understanding, smart (Obviously since Criminology) quiet, polite, protective.
Facts: -The white whisk in her hair is not hereditary, it's the cause of a lot of stress, and in her case, her trauma (Yep, all of my OCs will have those-)
- Her mother was the one who named her, while thinking of the obvious meaning because she thinks of her as a "dark mistake" Her father loved her though. (Yes, I said loved as in the past tense, you will see why.)
- She lives in Haido-cho. (Which is why Shinichi won't run into Agasa or the other characters at Beika easily)
- The necklace she has in the pic is the last gift she got from her father, so it's her treasure.
Father: Yukinawa Akihito (Meaning bright and compassionate ^^) Deceased.
Mother: Yukinawa Aiko (Meaning Love, the irony...) Alive but arrested.
Backstory synopsis:
- Her father got killed when she was 14 (Pretty sure you can guess who-)
- If you guessed it, then yeah, the culprit was the mother. She got extremely mad (she wasn't drunk, just in a bad mood, like she always is around Yoru) and was trying to kill her but the father took the hit and ended up dying. A neighbor heard Yoru's scream and saw the scene before the police were called so the mother got arrested.
- Since we all remember and know the age rules thanks to the Kudo couple, you already know how it's legal for Japanese people at 14 to live alone, so she lived alone off of her family money ever since. It's also thanks to that incident that she got interested in criminology.
