The Chief Elder began, Mary grinning
"When the committee began to consider Mary Assignment, there was some possibilities that were immediately discarded. Some that would clearly not have been right for Mary"
"For example we did consider for an instant designating Mary an Instructor of Threes"
Mary looking sheepish but pleased at the special attention
The Instructor of Threes were in charge of the acquisition of correct language
The Chief Elder continued "When we talked to Mary Instructor of Threes so long ago, we retold so many great stories that we all remembered"
Mary nodding along "her corrections and apologizes are very prompt"
The audience murmured in agreement
"Mary" she lifted her voice to make the official announcement
"We have given you the Assignment of Caretaker of the Old"
Even the applause, though enthusiastic seemed serene when Mary was given the important Assignment, it was perfect for such a smart and kind girl
And her smile was satisfied and pleased when she took her seat again
The Chief Elder looked down at her and said the words that she had said now four times, and would say to each new Twelve. Somehow she gave it special meaning for each of them
"Mary we thank you for your childhood"
