"Oh!" I say, reaching for him tho much too late. Then my hands go to my mouth as he tumbled down the stairs and to the basement floor.

"I'm so sorry," I quickly said.

"What are you doing?" He snarled at me. "I told you to stay out of the basement!"

"I'm really sorry." I said. He's not hurt-just embarrassed. He should be, too. Not because he fell, but because the basement is a dark and disgusting place, smelling of old laundry and tomato sauce. And I can see right away that he spends all his time down here.

"Did you finish cleaning the living room?" He snapped as he got on his feet.

"Living room?" I say, because he asked me to clean the dining room not the living room. I did do some cleaning in the living room too, but how would he know that?

"Um I mean the dining room," he says looking looking away from me. "Did you or not?"

"Yes," I say, "but I came to tell you that I'm going now."

"Already?" He says. I can't tell if he's angry that I haven't done more work or just disappointed that I'm leaving.

"Yes," I say. "I have a job at the hospital in the afternoons."

"Oh, fine then," he says as he starts up the stairs toward me and puts a hand on the door, as if to slams it in my face.

"I'll be back tomorrow morning," I quickly say, and it's true, I'll keep my father's promise, even if it's totally insane. Dad needs to know what it means to be honest in business, and I need to show him.

"You better," katsuki growled. "And the days after that till our housekeeper comes back."

"I will," I say and quickly step back as katsuki slams the basement door barely missing my feet.

"The nerve!" I muttered to myself as I turned away from the basement door, and there's Shota watching me, watching us . When he saw me looking at him he looked away quickly.

"It's fine, Shota," I say. " You have a right to keep your ears and eyes open while you're in your own kitchen."

I lean on the marble island and stare at the Mediterranean tile floor, which I'll probably have to clean in the morning. I just hope Shota isn't a messy cook.

"He's been through a lot lately," Shota whispered. "Try not to hold it against him."

"He's making it very difficult." I muttered sighing.

Shota suddenly smirked. "Here, lunch." He says while handing me a paper-wrapped parcel.

"Oh no I shouldn't," I say. "I really have to get going, the bus will be here soon."

"Don't worry I made it to go," Shota says.

Whatever he's been cooking in here all morning smells delicious. If this is even a tiny sample of that, then it'll be the best lunch I've had in a while.

"Thank you, Shota." I say while I'm walking to the door with him by my side.

"I'm going now," I say at the door. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye, brat." He call after me.
