September 15, 1996. It was a gloomy morning on 62 West Wallaby Street and about a year had passed since Wallace and Gromit's return from Venus. Gromit was fast asleep in his room which felt so peaceful. It was like nothing could ruin Gromit's dreaming into subconsciousness, until..

"Rise and shine everybody, because it's Lancashire's cheese of the year day!!". Gromit woke up with a start at the sound! He looked around and noticed it was just his alarm clock. He groaned at the announcement. "Great.. It's one of these! Gee, ain't I excited?" Gromit said as he reluctantly got out of his bed. He still felt rather sleepy, that announcement really didn't sit well with him. He thought of it as too loud. Gromit took off his night cap, placing it on his desk. He suddenly heard the bustling noise coming from down stairs. "Woah, one of the few times Wallace got up before me. But then again, the date explains it all." said Gromit. He sighed and opened his door, walking downstairs to the kitchen, and sure enough there was Wallace.

"Ooh, Good morning, Gromit! You know what day it is today!?" Wallace asked excitedly!

"Sure do.. Hard not to notice.." said Gromit turning his eyes.

"Hehe! So exciting! Now, you better hurry up with that tea because we can't afford to be late, lad!"

Gromit felt quite annoyed. "I'll take my time, thank you." he said slowly slurping his tea. Gromit wasn't the same friend he used to be. It seemed like ever since Wallace had been spending his time doing the things Gromit wanted, Gromit wouldn't give his time for Wallace in return. Things that he would do for Wallace used to be fun and existing to him, but in recent times they felt more like chores. In fact, more often than not he wouldn't even feel like hanging out with Wallace. Gromit was becoming more and more selfish and he didn't even realize it. However, Wallace did. But he didn't think too much of it. He thought of it as a weird phase that would soon go away. Besides, wouldn't Gromit know how important this day was to him?

Gromit finished his tea and walked out of the kitchen towards the doors. Wallace was all done and ready to go. "Come along now, lad! We're all ready! This is going to be so exciting!!" cheered Wallace. Gromit slowly nodded his head walking out of the house. Wallace walked down the street with excitement and pride as Gromit tugged behind him. The sky was cloudy and everything seemed like it was moving slowly. Gromit's eyes started to feel a bit heavy, until Wallace suddenly called his name. They had reached the long stair way leading downtown.

"Alright Gromit! We're really close to the festival so you might wanna put this on!" said Wallace, pulling out two cheese hats for himself and his lad.

"Ugh, not now Wallace." groaned Gromit.

"Ooh alright, come on let's hurry down these stairs." said Wallace, but he couldn't help but to glance at the sleepy and unamused Gromit. To Wallace he looked like a prisoner. "He can't be doing this to me again, especially today!?" though Wallace to himself. Wallace just hoped for the best.

When they finally reached the festival, there were a lot of people talking and walking around, having fun in the cold windy air. But the thing everyone came for, the center of attention was the sacred cheese that would determine what type of cheese was the cheese of the year, simply by falling on one of it's sides. Wallace was rooting for Wensleydale, as to be expected. Wensleydale was the right side.

Suddenly Mr. Growbag shouted to the microphone announcing that the sacred cheese was being released. Meanwhile in the audience, Gromit was at the peak of his boredom, while Wallace was excited like never before. They were truly the perfect contrast. When the sacred cheese was released out from it's cage, the audience clapped and cheered like they were looking at a super star.

"It's just some cheese, I don't understand the excitement." said Gromit shaking his head.

"Just some cheese!?" exclaimed Wallace! But he was rudely interrupted by the countdown. Once it was done the cheese fell.. On the left side.. A loud groan was heard from Wallace and everyone else who had disagreed. But hey, who were they to make decisions against the holy cheese? Wallace was saddened, but Gromit only chuckled.

"Well that was awkward. Seems like it wasn't worth coming after all." he said in a rude voice. Wallace glanced at Gromit with the most disappointing look on his face. But Gromit didn't even seem to notice.

"Well I'm going someplace else, see ya Wallace!" said Gromit. He disappeared into the crowd, leaving Wallace all alone. "Gromit..? What happened to you, lad?" said Wallace in a quiet voice. The gloomy day seemed colder, and he had nothing left to do but to walk back home.
