A bathroom hog, a saxophone serenade, and my desperate need for earplugs

Will

My day is going great. Kayla, my half sister, is hogging the only bathroom in the house, Austin, my half brother is playing his saxophone way too loud, and it sounds like a dying goose. My younger half sister, Lexi, is playing let it go way too loud, almost drowning out Austin's saxophone. I've listened to that song over 17 times today, and it's not even 7 am.

So as I said before, my day was going great. Then after I dropped off Lexi at her school, I crossed the road to get my car so I could go to my school, and the hottest boy almost ran me over with his motorcycle. He broke his arm protecting his sister. Then, he kissed me. Well, his sister forced him to kiss me if he wanted her to go to school, and he gave me a quick peck on the cheek. And I love it. I get to sit with him at lunch later. If you can't tell, I am excited.

Oh, my name is Will.

Back to what's happening right now. I'm in my science class, and it's 5 minutes until lunch. I tap my foot impatiently, and my teacher is annoyed.

Finally, the bell rang and I bolt out of the door. I speed walk to the cafeteria, and see Nico. He's just standing there, with his black hair up in a small ponytail. He looks lost in his thoughts.

"Nico!" I call out, and he searches the cafeteria until he sees me. He starts walking towards me, and has a fake smile on his face.

"Hi Will," he says.

"Come sit with me," I say.

Nico follows me to the table that I have sat at since the beginning of high school. Oh, crap. I forgot to tell him I don't sit alone.

Reyna, Thalia, Leo, Calypso, Annabeth, Percy, Jason, and Piper were at the table.

"Hey guys, this is-" I say but I'm cut off.

"Nico?" Percy says with his mouth wide open.

Nico has a scowl on his face, and Annabeth looks worried. The rest of my friends look as confused as me.

Percy looks like he is in a very awkward position, but does not explain.

"What's going on?" Leo asks.

Nico clenches his fist. "Bye," he says, then gets up and leaves.

I walk after him. "Nico, what just happened?" I ask.

"I- I don't want to talk about it," tears stream down his face, but he stays silent.

"When you do want to talk about it, I'm here. I want to help."

"You can't help!" Nico snaps. "No one has ever helped. Percy just made things worse. He didn't know."

Nico starts crying a lot more. It tears my heart into pieces. Since I'm the only one around, I pull him into a hug, making sure not to touch his broken arm, expecting him to push me away. But he leans into my touch. I rub circles along his back, and he lets out a deep breath.

We stay like that for a few minutes, until Nico gets up and wipes the tears off his face.

"Thank you," he says. "But can you not tell anyone else?"

"Sure, Neeks," I say.

Nico blushes at the nickname. "Only Hazel can call me that."

I smirk. "Come on Neeks. Class is about to start."

Nico groans. "I didn't get to eat any of my lunch."

"Me neither! But you don't see me complaining."

"Well, lunch is usually my only meal of the day."
