The day I woke up from a coma and almost had a heart attack

Nico

I slowly wake up. I hear a familiar voice, talking to me. Telling me not to die. Why would someone tell me that? I'm perfectly fine.

Then it comes back to me. Hazel! Did they find her? Is she okay?

The familiar voice is Will, I realize. My eyes open to see him, hunched over me.

"Will?" I ask.

"Neeks! You're alright!"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Where am I? I'm supposed to be looking for Hazel."

"You are not looking for Hazel anymore," Will says sternly.

I realize Jason and Leo are at the edge of the bed I'm lying in. Why am I not laying in my bed? Am I in Will's house? No, it's only white. If I was in Will's house there would be color.

Will notices the flash of confusion on my face. "You passed out," he explained. "You went into a coma, and have a minor concussion. The doctors think you got hit by a car."

The doctors? That means I'm in a hospital? My breathing gets rapid and heavy.

"Hey, hey. Calm down. It's okay," Will says. I find comfort in his voice.

All I can think of is Mama. She was sent to the hospital. The doctors tried to save her. But she was too far gone. I remember wailing over her dead body. But I knew she was gone.

The hospital smelled like death. It sounds weird, but it's true. I can sense the death. Death all around. Death... death around Will.

Will starts stroking my hair. I want to lean into his touch, but I remember Mama. Mama's dead body laid in a bed exactly like the one I'm laying in. Father stroked her hair, just like Will is doing for me. Am I dead?

Immediately, I dismissed the thought. I was breathing. I could feel Will's fingers stroking my hair. I'm still alive. What about Hazel?

Will looked straight into my eyes. His sky blue eyes were comforting, just like his voice.

"It's okay Neeks. It's okay," he said.

I finally calmed down. Then, the doctor finally came in, taking over 5 minutes, not doing their jobs. I'm thankful that it took them so long.

"Nico!" She exclaimed. "You're awake!"

She acted surprised. Was I supposed to not wake up?

Other doctors followed behind her. I squeeze the bed hard, and Will notices. He takes my hand into his. I don't squeeze as hard, careful not to hurt his hand.

The doctors do doctor-y things. I don't understand what they are doing, but Will seems to know. Jason and Leo are as lost as me.

Eventually, Percy, Annabeth, Reyna, Thalia, and the others try to get in, but have no luck. Jason, Leo, and Will are told to leave. The thought of Will leaving my side is unreal.

"Can you let them stay?" I asked one of the doctors.

"I'm sorry sweetie," she says. "But we need the space."

"Then can he just stay," I say, indicating Will.

"I guess. After we make sure you are stable we'll let the others in."

She checked my heart beat, then wrapped something around my arm. I don't understand anything, but I let it happen. It'll be over soon. I'll be out of here soon.

I turned my attention to Will. I realized he was crying. Without meaning to, I wiped a tear away from his cheek.

Will looked at me, his eyes red and puffy. It hurts. It hurts to see him like this.
