Chapter-3

-Daniel

It'll be another day and a half's trip to get to the safe house. I've been driving for hours, my eyelids are so heavy but I don't stop.

Liv is reclined back in her seat, asleep at the moment. She seems so peaceful, surprisingly given the situation.

She's a Carlisle, and I was raised to despise them, which I do. But something about her, I just can't find it in me to hate. Maybe its because she's so relatable, when it comes to being alone.

When she bit me, I felt her loneliness and her pain, the feelings go both ways. The same pain I feel, except hers may be even worse. I saw few memories of what she's been through, what she's seen. Even as a small child..it was horrifying to see at any age. And what happened to her brother.. Jamie, I felt her agonizing pain at the loss. He was all she had left. And the Celtarri took that from her. Not even I would be that cruel.

For a second I wanted to be the one to help make the pain go away, but I can't do that. I can't get close to her. If she knew the real me, she would go running for the hills.

She stirs in her sleep, distracting me from my thoughts. Glancing over at her, I look at her well.

She's quite beautiful, even when she was crying, and even when she was about to lose control and attack someone. Her kind, gold eyes went to a blood lusting red that was quite alluring. She's small, skinny, but curvy in just the right places that gives her the body of a model. She seems almost fragile, like I'd break her by just hugging her. Her hair is long, wavy curly-ish, dark brown. She's quite a sight to see.

She flinches awake, I assume from a nightmare but I don't ask. She adjusts the seat and sits up, glancing at me. "Would you like me to drive?"

"No, that's okay. Go back to sleep."

She shakes her head. "I won't be able to. Besides, I don't want to." She looks around and blinks her eyes awake. Silence falls between the two of us for quite some time. "I think we're being followed."

"What?" I glance in the rear view mirror. Testing the theory, I merge into the lane to the left, and then go over into the next one. Within seconds, the car follows. "Shit." I reach over into the glove compartment and grab my gun.

Liv looks frantically around and stares out the back windshield. "The car isn't there anymore."

I glance in the rear view mirror, she's right. Quickly, I look over to the right side by her. The car is there and the driver's window rolls down. The passenger leans over, pointing a gun at Liv. "Get down!" My hands react before my mind registers what I'm doing, I shove her forward and down as a bullet flies through her window. She screams and puts her arms over her head.

I slam my foot down on the gas pedal and the car speeds up. Liv sits up but I immedietely push her back down. "Stay down."

Bullets fly through the back window and I slide down in my seat. The other car drives around in the lane beside me and begins shooting, shattering my window.

Liv screams as a bullet almost hits her. Taking my pistol, I aim and shoot at the passenger. He's quick to reload his gun and begin shooting again.

I shoot once more and the man cries out and clutches his chest. I shoot down at the tires, forcing the driver to pull over.

I take a sharp turn, going 3 lanes over and exiting off the highway. I glance at Liv. "Are you alright?" I assess over her, she seems for the most part alright.

"I'm fine." She sits back up in her seat.

"We need to get a new car."

She cries out and I whirl my head in her direction. "What??"
