Chapter-10

I've heard Arizona is a really warm place, thankfully because I'm tired of the cold. Its already warmer where we're at, warm enough for t-shirts. Oh how I've missed my warmer day clothes.

My wound has already healed and the pain is finally gone. Thank God for vampire healing.

Daniel's asleep next to me while I drive. I've been driving for more than a day already and I'm starting to get really tired, but I'm not going to tell him. He's finally been sleeping off and on, and I don't want to make him have to drive.

The long, out stretched rode seems like it can go on forever as we drive through the deserts.

I check the rearview mirror again and notice the same black SUV from a few hours ago. Either their following us, or going to Arizona too. I'm pretty sure its the first one.

I slow down and take a turn onto a dirt path to see if they'll follow. Sure enough, they do. "Shit." I glance over at Daniel and shake him so he wakes up.

"What?" He groans and blinks his eyes.

"We're being followed." I pick up speed and the car behind us does the same. He jumps awake and turns around to look behind us.

"Pull over. I'm gonna take them out." He reaches in the glovebox and pulls out his pistol.

I slow the car and pull over to the side. The SUV does the same further back.

Daniel climbs out of the car and I do the same. "Look, if things start going to shit, you leave. Understand? You get in the car and drive off without looking back. Now hide behind the door." He points his gun at the vampire that climbs out.

I kneel down and move behind the door. Shit. There's more than we thought there was. "Daniel, there's 4 of them..You can't take them all out."

He ignores me and looks at the vampire. "I suggest you get back in the car and stop following us."

"I don't think so." The vampire smiles and the others step out of the car. The driver pulls out his gun and shoots at my door. I scream and duck as glass from the broken window shatters above me in my hair and clothes.

Another gun goes off, its Daniel's. He shoots one of the vampires, the first one that approached. Then another gun goes off. "Shit!" Daniel ducks behind his door as the other three begin shooting. "Get out of here! Now!" He jumps out from behind the door and distracts them. And then he's on the ground, clutching his shoulder in pain. The vampires continue to approach and lean over him with their guns.

"No! Stop!" I stand abruptly from where I was hiding and face the men.

"Liv, go!" Daniel shouts, practically begging me to go but I don't.

"Take me. Leave him alone, just take me." I hold my hands up in surrender.

"Why shouldn't we kill him and take you anyways?" One of them finally speaks up.

"Because I wont go with you. And you know I'm very difficult to catch. I'll be gone before you realize I've disappeared."

The vampire sighs and nods for the other two to grab me. The leader takes the gun from Daniel as the other two grab me.

"No! Liv don't! Let her go!" Daniel rolls over and pushes himself off the ground.

"Daniel, stop. I'll be okay. Trust me." I willingly follow the others to the car. When they think they've got me, that's when I strike. I elbow the man on my left in the stomach and elbow the one on the right in the throat. The vampire in front of me whips out his gun and my eyes begin to glow. A force from my hands, throws him into their car 10 feet away.
