P.O.V Change

It has been about a year now since the confrontation with the villagers. The villagers tried to reason with us, but in the end, they chose to leave. We followed them to the entrance of the valley and watched as they all left; once the last person left, however, there was a strange rumbling in the earth that caused a landslide that sealed up the entrance; we could both feel the strange magic that seemed to have caused it and become apart of our world at the same time. We investigated it but could not find the source of the magic.

Over this past year, we have been training ourselves in and out of our new forms. Today we were taking a break from training, Nightmare was reading one of the books we took from the villagers, and I was merely resting my eyes while lying under the Tree of Feelings when we both sensed strange magic; it was similar to the magic at the landslide but different at the same time. I sat up and looked around, but I didn't see anything amiss I was about to ask Nightmare if he noticed anything when a strange portal appeared. Its edges were a swirl of colors similar to a rainbow, while its interior was pitch black with what looked like stars twinkling in it.

We both summoned our weapons right as something came flying out of the portal. When the figure finally slammed into one of the trees that lined the clearing, they immediately started to stand up. I could see that they were injured and they were breathing heavily. They seemed to be a skeleton like us; they were wearing black boots with silver accents and black leggings under a knee-length black skirt with purple accents; their top half consisted of a shirt that faded from black at the top to purple at the bottom and a black jacket over the top with silver accents on it. They were using some sort of giant brush to help them stand before putting it into a defensive stance in front of them. They glanced around quickly before they noticed us; when they did, their went wide, and they spoke to us. "You guys need to get out of here now!" before we could respond, something else came out of the portal and slammed into the skeleton.

Nightmare and I ducked behind The Tree and poked our heads out to get a look at the fight. When both figures separated, we were able to see the second more clearly. They are bright red, their body is covered in a red robe that makes them look cone-shaped, their head is a giant red and black eyeball, and they have no arms but two floating hands that are just as red as the rest of their body. The two beings begin their fight once again; the red creature shoots red strings from its fingers and begins using them like whips and vines, trying to deal damage and capture the skeleton at the same time. The skeleton moves around, dodging as many strings as it can and using its brush like a Bo staff to block what they can't dodge, they use the bristles of the brush to launch different paint colors that seem to have different effects.

My brother and I continued to watch the fight from behind The Tree. Neither of us knew who we should back up in this fight or if we should get involved further than protecting The Tree at all. The fight heats up the longer it goes on; both of the beings have injuries, the skeleton more so than the red creature. After a harsh clash that pushes both of them back, the red creature seems to switch targets; it turns toward The Tree and launches a large ball of red and black magic toward it. Before either of us can move, we hear the skeleton monster shout, "NO!" they rush forward and get between the tree and the blast; they try to form a shield but only get it half up before the blast hits them. They get knocked back behind the tree and land right next to us.

I lean down and try to use healing magic on the skeleton while Nightmare erects a barrier around us. As I start to heal them, they grab my wrist, I look at them in shock, and Nightmare looks back at us as well. "Don't...Don't let them hit The Tree.... their magic will....corrupt.....corrupt it. You must....destroy them....quickly." They speak with labored breaths and barely manage to finish before they pass out. I looked over at Nightmare before looking over toward the red creature. It was circling the barrier slowly, looking for any sort of opening to exploit. I locked eyes with Nightmare and nodded at him; he nodded back. I stood up, and we both faced the creature. We changed to our powered forms and exited the barrier. The creature's eye-head tilted curiously like it was trying to figure out who we were and if we were a threat to it. We circled each other for a minute. One of the creature's hands twitched toward us, and we launched forward at the same time it did. The battle had begun anew.
