It comes to my stop and I manage to wave goodbye to Tom and Gus. Gus quickly looks me up and down then back towards his game. Tom on the other hand waves quickly, saying that I should come over some time. I laugh him off, saying my dad would rather kill someone than let me go to a boys house.
I walk home little Jessica, a third grader in our complex who I walk home every day. After that I cross the street and push open our door. It was locked but the whole thing is busted so it practically opens any time there's a strong gust of wind.
"I'm home!" I shout, as I always do. It takes effort not to cave under this skull pounding pressure The Operator is putting me under, but if my dad thinks there is anything wrong, he will flip. Thankfully, all I have to do now is get to my room and close the door, then I can tell them I can't do this anymore.
My dad is in the bathroom, so I just walk as fast as I can bear to my room and collapse on the floor.
"Hey there, have a headache? This will help." I flinch at a unexpected voice in my room and lift my tired head. Ben is laying on my bed, shaking a bottle of pills.
"I told you I won't take those." I growl in a low voice.
"Well, I don't really like no. So..." He gives me a smile and the pain in my head explodes into daggers that shoot though my body, effectively crippling me. I fall to the ground, that wasn't that far anyways, and try to stop the pain by pressing my hands against the side if my head. I hear a buzzing and whine as my body locks into place.
"If you can't take it just say so, we can tell your dad your going skateboarding, and sneak to my place." Ben suggests, holding Masky's pills in front of me. I try to close my eyes and hold on but the pain easily gets the best of me.
"Fine fine, stop please!" I whimper, still pressing my hands against my skull tightly. Not a second after, the pain stops, I'm only left with a faint buzzing that rings in my ears. I look up and scowl at Ben, who holds his hand out to help me up. I ignore it and grab the pills from him, delicately avoiding trying to touch him. If there's one thing that gets me riled up, it's when someone bests me.
"I didn't want Masky to leave you any 'presents' so here I am." Ben explains as I growl at him. I could have used a present right now.
"Is he at the mansion?" I ask.
"Probably, he doesn't go on any missions now that Alex and Jay are out of the picture. Why?"
"Cause I like him. He doesn't fucking pressure me to take his things." I whisper angrily. I always talk quietly if I talk at all at home, I don't want my dad to come in and find some crazy bloody eyed boy feeding me unknown pills. That wouldn't go over well.
"Well lets go find him." Ben chirps.
"Who says I always want to go? What if I don't want to intentionally put myself around killers?" I snarl. I'm crazy tired from whatever The Operator was doing to me, and I just want to sleep but I can't close my eyes. Damn paranoia.
"We'll I'm pretty sure this would do the trick." Ben grabs my hands and spins me so his arms are trapping me. I panic, I'm really not used to casual touches, especially not by people I like. I stand there comprehending what just happened as Ben waits for me to do something. "So, grab your stuff and tell your dad your going. I'll wait." He lets me go and steps back. My mind races while I unintentionally grab my things. Why is he so good with touches? I mean the most I touch people is when I hug them goodbye. And that's only girls. I hardly ever touch guys because of social stigmas, so how can he just pop up and grab me?
"I'm gunna ride around the complex!" I shout to my dad who is still in the bathroom. If he wanted he could spend all day in there.
"Helmet!" He yells.
"Got it."
I push through the door and walk to the backyard. Hopefully Ben isn't stupid and is already there.
