Chapter 4: The Staff Meeting

"Okay Y/N like I said, we have a little time until the rest of the staff are available. Let's see what we can do in the meantime." The headmistress started moving stuff around and searching for anything she might need.

After a while she stopped and looked up at you, clearing her throat before continuing to speak.

"I would like to offer you an opportunity Y/N. But first....I really need to know where you come from." She said.

You were reluctant to answer and even when you opened your mouth to speak, your words came out in a whisper.

"I-I....l-lived just outside of G-Glastonbury...." You said, looking down at the ground.

"Right, so you're local which is good. Makes things a lot easier." She said, writing everything down on a piece of paper.

"Now I.....asked you about your family last night. It sent you into a state of fear and panic that I'm not used to seeing." She sighed, knowing that this was very delicate.

She could see you already beginning to shake a little just being asked about it. A part of her didn't want to ask at all and to leave it be until you brought it up.

But she had to know so she could help you.

"I-I....would like to know Y/N. Please tell me.....are your family abusive? Have they hurt you in any way?" She asked.

She got no response out of you. You just stayed there completely frozen, shaking like a leaf. Your eyes filled with a deep dread.

"You don't have to express it in words. Just shake or nod your head.....have you been hurt in any way?" She asked again.

This time after waiting a little while, you slowly nodded your head. That was all the headmistress needed to hear.

"I-I see...." She took a deep breath and noted it down.

"I am.....so sorry Y/N.....I could tell something was up. For you to be able to let me know about it....means that you must at least trust me somewhat." She said and you nodded your head again.

"A-A bit...." You said.

"This is a good start. We can take this a step at a time my dear." She smiled.

"I'm very proud of you." Her words caused you to stop shaking. The praise enough to make you feel slightly warm on the inside.

"Now that I know the situation.....I would like to present my offer to you." She paused for a moment before continuing.

"You may stay here and I will help you on your path to recovery. It'll be a long one, and you most definitely need someone alongside you. Is that something you would like? Would you like my help Y/N?" She asked.

The room was silent for a few moments, but inevitably you stopped the arguing in your head and took the decision to trust Holbrooke.

"Y-yes....p-please...." You said making the headmistress smile widely.

"Wonderful! I will take good care of you Y/N! Do not worry!" She reassured, but still had more to say.

"There is a second part to my offer." She took a breath before continuing, knowing that it would cause some controversy in the staff meeting later on.

"Because you will be staying here....I could very easily enroll you into the school. You could learn magic if you so wished. It is up to you though. You do not have to."

After all that you had seen in such a short amount of time, it was an offer that you didn't really want to refuse.

Seeing magic in use did truly pique your interest, and being able to use it would be something you wanted to do.
