Chapter 9: Lunch

Two weeks had flown by, and Jaune and the rest of the students continued with their classes at Beacon Academy. It was lunchtime, and Nora Valkyrie had everyone's attention as she animatedly recounted a dream story.

Nora: So there we were, in the middle of the night...

Ren: It was actually during the day.

Blake was engrossed in her book, while Yang hung on Nora's every word, her hands cupping her face in excitement.

Nora: We were surrounded by Ursai...

Ren: They were Beowolves.

Nora: Dozens of them!

She exclaimed, standing at the table where Team RWBY and JNPR sat. Weiss ignored Nora, filing her nails, while Ruby and Pyrrha listened attentively. Jaune sat quietly, amazed by Nora's story.

Ren sighed, accustomed to Nora's recurring dream.

Ren: She's been having this dream for nearly a month now.

Jaune: Anyway, Ren, Nora, and Pyrrha, we need to discuss a few things.

This piqued everyone's interest at the table.

Jaune: I'll be away for a bit soon, on a mission with Professor Oobleck.

His announcement surprised and shocked everyone, prompting a barrage of questions.

Ruby: You already have a mission?

Yang: What mission is it?

Nora: That's awesome!

Pyrrha: What's the mission for?

Ren: Nora, relax.

Weiss: How come you have a mission and not anyone else?

Blake: Why Professor Oobleck?

Jaune waved them down, signaling for them to ask one question at a time.

Jaune: I requested a mission from the Headmaster to learn about leadership and working with others. It's like an excursion for me. Luckily, Headmaster Ozpin agreed and saw it as a smart opportunity for me. He wished me luck.

Ruby contemplated whether she should pursue a similar path, while the others listened intently.

Pyrrha: What kind of mission or excursion is it?

Jaune: We'll be heading into Vale, visiting areas with high crime rates to see if we can spot and stop any villains. Professor Oobleck or how he prefers to be called "Dr. Oobleck" will also provide guidance on leadership and hunting down not just Grimm, but people as well.

Suddenly, loud laughter filled the cafeteria, drawing everyone's attention. They turned to see Cardin tugging on the ears of a girl with rabbit-like features.

Bunny Girl: Ow! That hurts... Please, stop...

Cardin continued laughing and turned to his team.

Cardin: I told you it was real!

Cardin's teammates joined in the laughter, while at Jaune's table, the disgust was evident. However, Weiss appeared less affected by the situation.

Pyrrha: Atrocious. I can't stand people like him.

Blake glared angrily over her book at Cardin and his team, while Yang rested her head on her hand, a sad expression on her face.

Blake: He's not the only one...

Yang: It must be hard to be a Faunus.

Jaune stood up from the table, catching Ruby and Ren's attention.
