of course, wednesday hadn't been expecting xavier. she had expected him to not be at the party at all because enid said he'd come up with a pathetic excuse not to. but she wasn't ready for a full on relationship with xavier, and she didn't want to lead him on to believe it. so, even though it wasn't necessarily something wednesday yearned to do, she kissed anderson.

as soon as her lips parted from his, her bones felt like they had turned to mush. she didn't want to turn around and face xavier, but she had to.

"holy shitttt," morgan's voice slurred. "they're about to fight."

xavier felt as if his heart had been pierced when he saw wednesday kiss anderson. wednesday was his soulmate, his girl, and she had just kissed another boy- let alone the most popular boy in the school.

anderson smiled at the girl with bright eyes. wednesday addams had kissed him... in front of her ex. he didn't know if it was to make xavier thorpe jealous or if she meant it, but he didn't mind. he... kind of liked wednesday addams.

wednesday couldn't back down from the problem at hand, so as soon as her eyes met xavier's, she went and sat back in the circle, not uttering a single word.

xavier couldn't let it slide. he was not just surprised; he was jealous, heartbroken, and overall: confused.

"wednesday, can i talk to you for a second?"

wednesday didn't even look up when she replied, "not right now, xavier. i am in the middle of a game."

xavier shook his head dismally and left the room. what kind of party was that? one in hell?

he wasn't going to give up on talking to her. he waited until the party was over and she walked out of the room to pull her aside.

somehow, wednesday was the last person to leave anderson's party... and he stepped out with her.

"i had a good time with you tonight. do you mind if i walk you to your dorm?" asked anderson. wednesday was about to answer when xavier stepped in. "no, man. she's with me. come on, wednesday. let's go."

wednesday glared at xavier and briskly walked away from the two boys before either of them could say another word to her. "wednesday, wait up!" xavier called after her. she firmly ignored the annoying boy and continued to her dorm room.

xavier wanted to cut her off somehow, but there was no possible way. he would quite literally have to tackle her to the ground, and so he did.

"xavier, if you do not get off of me right now, i assure you i will call your elitist snob of a father and convince him to disown you," threatened wednesday.

xavier slowly got back onto his feet and held out a hand for wednesday, who angrily declined it. she glared at the artist for a split moment, praying his insides would explode. but they didn't.

instead, he began talking about what he had witnessed a little over an hour before. "so, are you with anderson now, wednesday? because i thought that we were something, but you're clearly just lying to me. seriously, do you want to keep leading me on? do you want to keep hurting me?"

wednesday couldn't believe she'd just heard those words come out of xavier's mouth. "right now, i want to hurt you so badly that you will never speak to me again."

that caught xavier a bit off guard himself. "wednesday, i don't wanna fight with you. i just wanna know why you were kissing anderson. like... did you think it was gonna be a secret you could keep from me? he's the most popular guy in school."

wednesday, on the contrary, was not afraid to fight with him. "my relationship with anderson is none of your concern. i previously warned you that i make terrible friendship material. it was to your own self sabotage that you did not listen and ignored my warning. you have given me no other choice than to cut off my communication with you entirely."

xavier shook his head. "wednesday, please. i really just wanna find a way to work things out with you-"

"xavier, you have tried being just a friend to me, being more than a friend to me, and being nothing to me at all," said wednesday. "we were both completely regular and ourselves when you were nothing to me and i was nothing to you. there is nothing else to discuss. we are acquaintances and nothing more."

xavier firmly shook his head again. "no, please, wednesday, you can't do this again. we can work together to figure out who yoko's murder is and what their plan is. we have always worked better together, as a team. a pair. a duo. partners."

wednesday didn't even reply that time. she merely walked away and left the boy wondering what he had done wrong.

when she got back to her dorm room, enid asked her, "what's wrong? was everyone drunk at anderson's party? or... was xavier there?"

"yes," replied wednesday. "xavier was there. he had even more testosterone issues than normal. i want nothing more than for him to be sent to an insane asylum at the moment."

"wednesday, you're my best friend, and if i'm being honest here, the only person i know who should be sent to an insane asylum other than tyler is you," enid replied.

wednesday nodded in approval. "thank you. i knew you would figure out how to cheer me up somehow."

after a short chat, wednesday began working on her novel while enid began scrolling on social media when she got a text from xavier. she couldn't help but ask questions in return.

enid looked up wednesday with a sigh. "so... why exactly do you hate xavier? did he do something to piss you off? i'm not opposed to burning his dorm down now that i'm not dating ajax."

wednesday quickly glanced up from her typewriter at the mention of committing arson. "i am no longer friends with him, enid. if i hated him, i would have already covered up his murder. xavier was selfish and believed we should be more than friends. i have a difference in that opinion and because of his toxic masculinity, he can not accept it. so i was forced to cut off communications completely."

enid sighed. "he's really in love with you, wednesday. you're breaking his heart."

wednesday nodded. "it is what i do second best. first being breaking bones and bodies."
