~When You Guys Were Young~

~(Y/N)'s POV~

"Hey (Y/N)!" I turned around and saw my best friend running towards me. "Hello Levi." I said once he stopped right in front of me. "Look what I got." Levi showed me what he was hiding behind his back. It was a loaf of bread. "What?! How did you get that Levi?!" I asked shocked on how he was able to get that much food. "This old lady needed some help with her bags. After I helped her she gave me this." He said. "Wow! Really? I thought everybody in this dump wouldn't give food out like that for such a small thing." I said while thinking about all the mean people that lived in the Underground. "I thought that too. But she said she gave it to me because I was small." Levi said with a little frown on his. "Well we can't pass this opportunity for eating something this good. Come on." Levi took me by the hand and started to walk away from the crowded streets.

Levi took me to a cave. "Levi what are we doing in a cave. We could get lost." I said getting a little worried. "Just come on." He said while tightening his grip a little on my hand.

After a couple of minutes of walking, I started to see light. Once we got closer, I noticed that the light was coming from the top of the cave. When we walked through the opening of the rocks, I looked up and saw sunlight. We were in a clearing of the cave. It was like a room with no ceiling. "Woah. When did you find this place Levi?" I asked while still looking around. "A couple days ago." Levi took a seat on a rock and patted the space next to him so I can sit. "Here." He handed me half of the bread. "What? No Levi. Here." I ripped the piece he gave me in half and gave the other half to him. "But aren't you hungry (Y/N)?" Levi asked me with a confused expression. "Well, yes. But you were the one who got the bread. You deserve most of it." I said while taking a bite of my piece of bread. "But I want you to have half of it. I don't want you to starve to death (Y/N)." He said, giving me the half I gave to him. "Levi, I am not going to starve to death. I'm only making this fair. Since you did all the work to get the bread, then you at least deserve most of your reward." I explained. Levi gave me a worried look, but then moved his attention to the hole in the ceiling.

A couple minutes of silence took over. "Thank you (Y/N)." Levi broke the silence. "Thank you for what?" I looked at him with confusion written over my face. "You are really considerate of others. This is why I lov- I mean like you (Y/N)." Levi said with a light blush covering the bridge of his nose. I looked at him with a small smile on my face and said , "Well thank you for saying that I am considerate of others Levi. I like you too Levi. I hope we can be best friends forever."

Silence again, took over. "Hey Levi?" I asked. "Yeah?" "Promise me that you will never leave me." He looked at me with a shocked expression. His expression slowly turned into one of his genuine smiles. "I promise (Y/N)." "Okay good. I found these while walking down the street." I dug my hand into my pocket and pulled out two silver rings. "These rings can be our promise rings." I said while giving him one. He looked over it closely before looking back at me. Levi then slid the ring on his ring finger on his right hand. I did the same with mine. "Promise?" "Promise."

It has been a couple months since we made our promise. We have been meeting each other in the cave since.

It was like any other day. I was walking to the cave to meet Levi. When I got there, he wasn't there. Maybe he is running a little late. I thought to myself as I sat down on a rock. I started to wait for a couple of minutes. I kept waiting and waiting.

Soon, it started to get late. I have waited for at least three and a half hours already. Where could he be? I started to get worried. I finally decided to go to his house.

Once I got there I knocked on the door. I waited a couple of seconds to see if anyone would come. When nobody did, I knocked again, but this time a little louder. Still nobody came. "Hello! Is anyone in there?!" I asked. I put my ear next to the door to see if I could hear any replies. When non came, I decided to open the door. It was unlocked. Once I opened the door, I wished I didn't. There laying on the ground, was Levi's mom. I remember her from a couple of visits. She would let me sleep here some nights because I didn't have a home or family. They died in a fire. All I could do was stare at her body. It was bloodied from what looked like stab wounds. When I got all of my senses back, I ran to her body. It was lifeless. I looked into her eyes, and what I saw scared me. In her eyes were just sadness, anger, and what made me cry was that the light was taken out of her eyes. I sat there crying, next to her body, for what seemed like hours. She was just like a mother to me. Her and Levi were the closes thing I got for a family after what happen to my parents. All I could hear was my sobs. I knew nothing could bring her back to life. I finally decided to say my farewells. "I am so sorry. I wish you were still here. Thank you for everything you have done for me. I hope you are able to sing with the angel's choir. Farewell."

I stood up and went upstairs. "Hello? Levi?" I said while looking through the doors. Nothing. I went back downstairs. I walked to the front door and opened it. But before I went out, I looked back down at Levi's mom and did a small wave.

~Time Skip~

I have been searching for Levi for hours now. I even asked people to see if they saw him. I was loosing hope now. Where are you Levi? I need to know if you are safe. Who killed your mother? I thought while walking to the cave hoping to find Levi.

Once I got there, I saw nobody. I laid on my back and looked up at the night sky. The stars were shining brightly. I held up my right hand to look at the silver ring. "Levi, where could you be? You promised me you would never leave me. But here I am wondering where you had gone off to. You broke the promise Levi. You broke it." I said while rubbing my finger over the ring. I single tear ran down the side of my face. Before sleep could over take me I whispered, "Broken." Then I was pulled into darkness.
