~~
It was the day of the emergency scan. I had heard about Tyler's charges and his trial. He was being charged with assault, ABH, and domestic violence. He was made to sign his parental rights away to the court due to the nature of his charges.
Unfortunately, he was only given a year and community service.Theo took me to my scan at the hospital. He had been amazing over the time I had been here. He had made up a nursery already. He checked on me every night. He always reassured me that everything was going to be alright.
The nurse placed the scanner on my stomach, I saw a baby, wriggling, and the heartbeat seemed strong.
"It's just a peanut at the moment, but we will do scans twice a month to check development. Then, drop it to once a month." She explained.
"When will I be able to adopt it?" Theo asked.
"The day it is born, we can have the papers prepared should you and miss White want that." The nurse smiled.
We left the nurses office with a lot to think about.
"What exactly do you hope to get out of this?" I asked Theo.
"A family." He smiled.
My heart fluttered, but I still wasn't ready to open my life to anyone, Tyler had destroyed me as a person. The slightest movement I'd flinch, loud noises I'd panic. I had to remain calm, but it was difficult when I was in constant fight or flight mode. I received a letter from Tyler from prison. Well, the letter was sent to fathers because Tyler wasn't allowed my address.
The letter read;
'S
I'm sorry I truly am, I'm sorry I hurt you and our baby, I'm sorry for the way I acted, I was heavily intoxicated and drugged. That's no excuse for the way I behaved, and I'm sorry for what I put you through.I know, sorry, won't fix anything, but I do hope that it helps you heal. I'm sorry for all the damage I have caused. If you'd let me, I'd like to be in our baby's life.
I know there's restrictions and supervision I need to have, but please think about it.
I'll love you always.
Ty.'The letter broke me, I sobbed into Theo's chest, and the letter fell to the floor. I had no words i tried to speak, but nothing came out.
Theo collected the letter from the floor. I nodded for him to read it. Still, with my face buried in his chest, I waited for him to read it. I felt his heartbeat get faster.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"That SOB thinks he can ask to see your baby after what he did." Theo snapped.
"He's not allowed. He signed his rights away. The nurse said that herself." I replied."Tyler isn't the father. You are. You've been there from the day I found out. You never denied me or the baby. I'll write to Tyler to let him know he isn't involved." I explained.
I did exactly that, I told him he signed his rights away and that Theo was planning on adopting the baby. The baby, which had no name currently, since I didn't know it's gender yet.
The monthly scans were going as we hoped I was now four months gone. The baby was growing fine. They were hitting all the target measures. I could get a gender scan today.
Me, Theo, and my mother were still living under one roof. My father had divorced my mother, but she got half of everything, his business, his estate, his money because of the cheating.
Theo and I were still friends. Granted, I slept in his bed, and he took the couch because he said it was the comfiest bed in the house. He had spent months on the nursery and getting all the furniture, and I wasn't sure if I was prepared to burden him with a baby.
We headed to the hospital for the gender scan. We got called into the room. I climbed onto the bed, and the scan began. It was a different nurse scanning me today.
"Do you want to know?" The nurse asked.
"We would." Theo replied.
"You're having a little girl." She smiled.
"Daddy's little princess." Theo smiled.
The nurse left us a moment, Theo took my hand in his.
"I'm not asking for marriage or any kind of commitment, only when you're ready, but I would like to ask your permission to raise your little girl with you." He smiled.
"That was the plan." I laughed.
We left the hospital, and Theo and my mother couldn't wait to start clothes shopping. I was four months pregnant , walking around shops. I was exhausted.
After hours of the pair shopping, we headed home, my feet swollen. My father was waiting for us when we arrived.
"Here's another letter from Tyler." He shoved the letter in my hand and sped off.
This letter read;
'Sierra.
I know I signed my rights away, but I'd like to see my child. Can I at least know the babies gender or their name? Just give me something, please.
I regret everything. I'll see you soon.
Tyler.'
Tyler gets out of jail in eight months, and he would set out to find me and the baby, and the thought of that rocked me to my core.
"What's he said?" Theo asked.
"He wants to know the baby's name." I replied.
"Are you going to tell him?" Theo smiled.
"No. I'm not replying. I want to focus on my family." I replied.
"I can support that." Theo smiled.
Theo had been such an amazing friend to me, he put his entire life oh hold to take care of me and my mother.
Theo and I were discussing baby names. I was tired of referring to her as baby and wanted to give her a name.
"I like Myka or Jade." I suggested.
"I like Saffron and Maria." Theo replied.
"Well, we aren't getting anywhere like this." I laughed.
"Maybe your mom can help us decide." Theo suggested.
We headed into the living room where my mom was sitting.
"Pick a name." I blurted.
We rhymed off the four names to her. She beamed and then replied quickly.
"Myka." She smiled.
I whipped around to look at Theo. He was smiling, too.
"Myka White." I beamed.
My father had stopped coming around with letters from Tyler. Instead, he'd compile a bunch and send them over to my house. I had hoped that Tyler would just forget everything and move on. He was so persistent.
The letters mainly spoke about Myka. He wanted to know her name, and when I was due, etc. Of course, I didn't disclose any of this. I wasn't allowed to children's services and told me not to tell him.
