HAPPIER THAN EVER, billie eilish

'You scared me to death but I'm wasting my breath'

Third Person POV

Hope Kane thought she had only one purpose in life: to make life better on the Ark. As the daughter of a councilman, it was expected of her, so she did everything in her power to give a little extra to the people who needed it, only to run into a minor problem; most of her efforts were illegal.

On the Ark, there is no such thing as extra, at least not for the working class. Extra food, extra clothes, extra necessities, they all went to the people of Alpha Station, a high class of people who hardly had to work a day in their lives to achieve high positions of power.

Hope was never entitled. She was thankful for what she had and all she wanted to do was give back, but the laws of the Ark made it near impossible. Her father, Marcus Kane, a high ranking member of the council, refused to let her 'run wild' and 'abandon her responsibilities'.

She was more than happy to follow her father's orders when she was young and naive, believing that the council's only goal in life was to live peacefully, and eventually get back to the ground, but she rebelled when she grew to learn that the council only lied, murdered, and kept secrets simply to survive.

Since the age of 7, Hope had influence over the people of the Ark. Everyone loved her no matter what station they came from. They saw fit, a future leader that would bring peace and equality to the Ark. This was a major problem for the leaders who were trying their hardest, bending morals, and following rules to lead in the most cruel and unforgiving ways.

Hope had no intention of being such a light to so many people, and she definitely didn't complain, but being a leader was never something that she wanted. She saw what it turned her dad and closest family friends into and it was the last thing that she wanted for herself.

She watched day and night as her father came home, tired and stressed out from a long day of what she perceived as nothing, but to him would be the hardest days of his life as he had to walk the halls and be asked about his beloved daughter non-stop.

He loved and cherished Hope, and was more than willing to sing her praises to anyone who would listen, but he got tired when Hope's influence simply overwhelmed his own.

...

Hope walked through the hallways of the Ark, distressed, looking for her best friend Raven Reyes. She had just had an argument with her father as he had, once again, caught her smuggling extra rations among her own. He knew what she did with them and he admired her warm heart, but he also knew that her actions would get her killed if she were caught. Only, Hope didn't care about the risks. She thought that a hungry family being fed was more than worth it.

She thought about everything that had happened just a few minutes ago and tears sprang to her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Of course, they'd had arguments before, but none like this. Going to Raven always made her feel better.
