The sun was setting over the horizon, casting soft hues of pink and gold across the sky. Ruby Rose sat on the edge of a small cliff, her legs dangling over the side as she gazed out at the tranquil view. The cool evening breeze tousled her hair, but she didn't mind. It felt like the world was finally slowing down for a moment, and she needed the quiet.
It had been a whirlwind since Y/n L/n and Char Aznable had arrived in Remnant. The mobile suits, the endless missions, and the strange new allies—everything felt like it was moving faster than she could keep up with. Even as a huntress, she had always been one to act quickly, but this? This was different. Everything felt... too big.
Y/n: Ruby?
Y/n's voice broke her from her thoughts, and she turned to see him walking toward her, his footsteps quiet on the soft earth.
Y/n: You know, it's dangerous to sit on the edge like that.
Ruby flashed him a grin, swinging her legs back and forth.
Ruby: I'm not gonna fall, Y/n. Promise.
She glanced at him.
Ruby: Just needed some space to think.
Y/n sat down next to her, the soft rustling of the grass barely audible. His eyes, always calm, followed the fading light in the sky.
Y/n: I understand. The world can be overwhelming. I've been there.
Ruby looked over at him, taking in his easy demeanor.
Ruby: I don't get it. You've been through so much, Y/n. So much fighting. So many people depending on you. How do you even keep going?
Y/n paused, his gaze lingering on the horizon.
Y/n: At first, I didn't know how. I thought if I just kept fighting, I could protect everyone. But eventually, I learned something important: sometimes, it's okay to stop. To take a moment and breathe. The answers come when you give yourself space to listen.
Ruby's brow furrowed as she thought about his words.
Ruby: I guess... I'm always running. Always trying to help, trying to do something. I don't really know how to slow down.
Y/n smiled gently, his voice reassuring.
Y/n: You don't have to do everything at once, Ruby. It's okay to take a step back. You're not alone in this.
Ruby felt the weight of his words settle in. She had always felt the need to protect everyone, but maybe she didn't have to carry that burden on her own. She took a deep breath, feeling the cool evening air fill her lungs.
They sat in silence for a while, watching the sun slip beneath the horizon. Ruby closed her eyes, allowing herself to simply be. The wind, the quiet, the company—it was enough for the moment.
Ruby: Well, I can't sit here forever. But I don't really want to go back to all that just yet.
Y/n: I understand
Y/n replied, his tone thoughtful.
Y/n: That's why I think we should take a break. There's a cafe in the village nearby. You ever had an actual break? No battles, no missions—just... food and company?
Ruby grinned, feeling her stomach growl in agreement.
Ruby: That sounds amazing.
But just as they were about to get up, a new voice interrupted them.
Char: I don't see what's so appealing about sitting around in silence.
Ruby turned her head, surprised to see Char Aznable leaning against a nearby tree, his arms crossed and his gaze sharp. He had a way of making even the most casual observations sound... calculated.
Y/n raised an eyebrow but didn't seem surprised.
Y/n: Char. What brings you out here?
Char shrugged, his red uniform striking against the fading daylight.
Char: I figured I'd check in. It's not often you see a pilot like Y/n L/n taking time for himself. It's a strange sight."
Ruby chuckled, nudging Y/n with her shoulder.
Ruby: It's good to relax, though, right?
Y/n smiled, but Char didn't seem entirely convinced.
Char: Relaxing doesn't win wars.
Ruby blinked at him, a little taken aback.
Ruby: I thought you were all about strategy and precision. Isn't that the same thing as winning wars?
Char tilted his head, considering her words.
Char: There's more to it than that. Sometimes, in the midst of war, one can forget what they're fighting for. People like you, Ruby, who still hold onto hope and joy—that's what can change the outcome of a war."
Ruby stared at him, surprised by the depth of his words. Char was always so stoic, so distant, it was easy to forget he had a side that thought about more than just tactics. Y/n glanced at Char, then back at Ruby, giving her a small, understanding smile.
Y/n: He's right. But you don't need to carry all that weight on your own. Sometimes, you just need a little time to... reset.
Char straightened, his gaze softening just a fraction.
Char: I suppose I could use a break too. A change of pace might be useful.
Ruby raised an eyebrow.
Ruby: Wait, you? I never thought I'd see the day where Char Aznable took a break."
Char gave a small, rare smile, one that didn't quite reach his eyes but was still genuine.
Char: Even I know when it's time to stop being a strategist and just... be.
Y/n laughed lightly, standing up.
Y/n: Well, what do you say, Ruby? Care to join us for a peaceful evening? No mobile suits. No fights.
Ruby's eyes sparkled as she stood.
Ruby: I'm definitely in. I've had enough of Grimm and gunfire for one day.
As the three of them walked toward the village, the world seemed a little lighter. Maybe it was the sunset, maybe it was the conversation, but for the first time in what felt like forever, Ruby felt like she was more than just a fighter. She was a person. And this—this small moment of peace—was something she could hold onto.
As they approached the cafe, the cool night air felt refreshing, like a promise that, no matter how difficult things got, there would always be time for moments like this.
A/n: its been way to long since I've written on this. I have some catching up to do. Let me know if you have an ideas for the next special. It will involve Weiss, our snow cold princess.
