Attention! Mary Sue!!

It is a term used for fictional characters that you will find unsympathetic, idealized with a character that is too uninteresting.

Most Mary Sue's are far too unrealistic and untrustworthy. They have virtually no character; they are absolutely the most perfect people around and short stories practically lose their meaning without them.

The designation Mary Sue is used for both sexes, but I also came across a special designation for male representatives - Gary Stu, Marty Stu, etc. Mary Sue is the most common.

The video does a nice job of showing what Mary Sue is, and there's a pretty good Wikipedia article (I hope it still is) to give you an idea of what the term is all about.

I have to say that the character of Old Shatterhand is a beautiful example of such a character, which is also mentioned in the article - but this is not in any way disparaging the works of Karl May, I like his works very much and it took me a lot of effort to find almost all of his works.

Consider, however, that this is an invincible and handsome German who is very successful in the Wild West. Despite all his adventures, he is always perfectly groomed (you wouldn't find a speck of dust on his clothes). In addition, they are spreading European thought and civilization on the American continent... Doesn't the idea of invincible Germans sound familiar to you?
