Note: This is how It Wasn't That Way originally started. I thought it would be fun to include the first chapter I wrote of the ABO version as a bonus ❤️

Cake lived above a bakery, but nothing was sweeter and more precious to him than his best friend Eiw.
It was a rainy morning in the ninth grade when Eiw first presented. Cake knew everything there was to know about Eiw, so from the moment he slid into reluctant consciousness, he knew that something was very very off.
Eiw's bed was a haven of comfort. Cake and Eiw slept over at each other's houses almost every night, and every time Cake slept next to Eiw, he slept so deeply that he was impossible to wake.
Presently, Cake was snuggled in Eiw's soft cotton sheets. They should be scratchy from how often Eiw washed them, but with each wash, they just got more worn and more comfortable. Cake had long since brought over the kind of pillow he liked and left it there. It was medium firm, just the way he liked, but it smelled like Eiw which made it even better.
And all was well, all was good, but from the moment Eiw entered his room fresh from his shower, Cake was roused into wakefulness from the way that Eiw smelled.
Usually, Eiw would have to jump on top of Cake and shake him awake, but today, was different.
Today, Cake woke up on his own.
Cake cracked an eye open and saw that Eiw was already dressed. Cake knew Eiw so well that he had no need for scent to know when his best friend was happy or sad. Cake could discern his emotions just from the cant of his eyes or from the way he fidgeted with his fingers.
Eiw was properly buttoned and tucked into his uniform as usual, so prim and proper in a way that made Cake's skin itch. His white shirt was pressed free of wrinkles and tucked into his black shorts. Sure Cake got scolded by the teachers every now and again, but tucking his uniform in was just so uncomfortable; he wasn't sure why Eiw wore it like that.
It suited him though, of course.
Cake couldn't imagine Eiw looking messy or unkempt in any way. He'd been that way since they were kids. Unable to even stand mud on his hands when they'd gotten messy playing.
Rain beat down on the tin roof and Eiw's blankets were so cozy they tempted him to sleep in. Cake was still warm and fuzzy with sleep, but when Eiw crept into his room on a quest for socks, Cake awoke all at once. His nostrils flared with the strangeness of Eiw's scent.
Something wasn't right.
Something was off.
Scent wafted from Eiw as strong as though he'd doused himself in perfume.
Cake sensed Eiw's usual smell, creamy, sweet, and buttery, like milk squeezed from freshly shredded coconut. It calmed Cake a fraction with it's familiarity.
He inhaled, deeply, searching for the fruity undercurrent that swirled through the rest of Eiw's scent, only to pull up short, confused.
He didn't sense the tart, sugary undertone that he had come to associate with Eiw. No. When Cake breathed in, Eiw smelled like ripened fruit. A vibrant sort of smell, juicy and ambrosial.
Cake's nose twitched and he began to sweat. He started to get hard in his shorts, but he didn't think anything of it. He had woken up excited to see P'Rin that morning. His reaction was a little embarrassing, but he was pretty sure it was normal for someone his age. And besides, it was just Eiw. Eiw might nag and scold, but he would never judge him.
