I slowly made my way out of the forest and headed towards my house, holding my wounded stomach the entire time. As I approached my home, I could see police cars parked out front. I noticed my father standing outside talking to two police officers and running his hands through his hair. He looked very disheveled and nervous.
I felt the tears start to fall down my face as I got closer. I knew I was about to look so foolish and crazy.
As soon as I came into view, my father's red eyes looked up to see me coming down the sidewalk. Blood was drenched down my sweatpants. He pushed through the police officers as he ran towards me.
"Babygirl" he cried out looking at the blood on me.
His eyes looked distressed but I could see a hint of worry as he gazed over the blood stains. I knew what he feared of me.
"Are you okay?" he whispered, before wrapping me up in a tight embrace.
"I'm fine, dad" my voice was weak.
He released me from his grip as the two police officers came towards us. My fathers eyes pleaded with mine like he was silently begging me to not tell the officers that I had done something horrible.
"You okay, miss? What happened?" one police officer with a 70s porno mustache asked me.
"I'm okay...I was home alone and got scared thinking that someone was in the house. I ran out towards the woods but I ran into a bear and it attacked me" I quickly explained but my dad looked worried that I wasn't being truthful.
"A bear..." mustache man said, seeming unconvinced.
"Yeah, a bear" I stated again.
"I thought something had happened to you, I called the house but you never picked up the phone so I rushed home early..." my dad hurriedly rushed out his words "and when I came home and found footprints in the kitchen that I knew weren't yours; I got even more worried. Then your wall looked like it had been hit by something.."
I had never seen my father looked this frightened in my life. It was the first time that I could really see the fear in his eyes but something else caught my attention.
How did he see the muddy footprints and the marks on the wall? If he saw them then that would mean that it actually happened?
How could that be possible...?
"Ma'am, are you listening to me?" this time the other officer was adressing me.
"W-what...?" I stammered out.
"The ambulance is about to arrive to check out your injuries. That's a lot of blood on your clothes" he eyed my arm that covered the wound suspiciously.
"And if a bear attacked you then you really need to be looked at as soon as possible"
I simply nodded, hearing the ambulance sirens coming in the distance. I could see my neighbors begin to come out of their houses as the ambulance pulled up.
I looked over to see my dad tense. I knew he hated to be made a spectacle. His arms were crossed over his chest as he stared at the loud vehicle approaching us.
The EMT's quickly rushed me into their ambulance. They removed my shirt, leaving me feeling exposed in my bra. They laid me back on the gurney making me wince in pain as I moved around. For the first time I let my wound uncovered and out in the open.
"Oh my god..." one of the EMT's whispered making the other one look down at me, his eyes widened.
"What?" I fearfully asked.
