You stumbled into Sesshoumaru's path one summer day from a village a mile away. The scent of an evil demon was in the air, along with the smell of blood and smoke.
You were in bad shape, pathetically tattered, burned with bloodloss, and on the verge of death.
You could tell he was a demon immediately. He saw that in your eyes when they widened, but you reached for him nonetheless for assistance.
Wordlessly, he passed you by, his pace never altering.
Soon, he was out of your line of sight.
You made it another half mile before your body gave out to its injuries, the nearest town being another two miles away.
When you awake, it is night. You come to, lying on soft green grass next to a hot and crackling campfire. Fearful, you jump to your feet for distance, remembering your severe burns.
"Master! The human has awaken!"
"Thanks for that, Jakken. I wasn't aware."
You instantly recognize the demon from earlier. He's resting against a near tree, his eyes closed. More than that, you examine your body. The burns are completely gone from your smooth and youthful brown skin. All pain has dissipated. You look to the resting white-haired demon in awe.
"You saved my life."
He doesn't move nor reply, but you've experienced his great kindness.
"I'm indebted to you," you bow in gratitude. "I will stay with you and serve you until my debt has been paid."
His servant, Jakken, is personally offended and angered.
"Wha?! Lord Sesshoumaru does not desire company! Especially the company of an incompetent human!"
"Lord Sesshoumaru?" You repeat the name, testing it on your lips.
"HOW DARE YOU SAY HIS NAME!" Jakken gasps at your audacity.
"Lord Sesshoumaru it is." You remain bowed, insistent. Lord Sesshoumaru is what you will call him from this day forward.
When he doesn't respond, you sit back down on the grass and watch the stars. The crackle of the fire and the sound of night crickets are a lullaby.
"Goodnight," you whisper as light as the wind. He doesn't move a centimeter as you lie back down in your comfortable spot, feeling safer than you have in a long time.
