Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas produced from the lack of oxygen. When a certain amount is breathed, it can lead to unconsciousness, suffocation and even death.
Around fifty years ago, astronomers discovered carbon monoxide in space. It helped us to see dark regions (also known as cosmic voids) of the universe and helped us to understand it more clearly. In these last fifty years, global temperature has risen at an average rate of about 0.13°C which is almost twice as fast as the previous half-century.
But that doesn't matter. Not in this story anyways. It seems something much more unimaginable will cause the Earth to flip on it's side, meaning humans will be free from the guilt of ruining this planet. Great isn't it?
Wrong.
All humans will die, knowing goddamn well they treated everything like shit and took it for granted. Some tried, I'll give them that... but not enough.
Anyways, this story doesn't end with global warming. It ends suddenly. Painfully. We all know there HAS to be an end.

Craig Tucker was a scientist and rocket engineer for NASA. His real aim was to become an astronaut but for now, he was happy he was even involved with NASA considering he was young enough to be a schoolboy. He mainly worked in the Scientific sector rather than engineering, as he found it more interesting.
One day there was a major launch. Most employees took time out of their job to watch it. Craig was called over to a computer to make sure the engines werent failing, but he wasn't complaining. He got to watch a rocket launch with his own computer. Everything fortunately went very smoothly but Craig couldn't help but notice a small object in the background. It was glowing and slightly twinkling, but it definitely wasn't a star. Whatever it was, Craig had a gut feeling that it was not good news at all. He ended up informing his worries to one of the more experienced folk, hoping they could identify the object. It was taken for examination, as Craig was told a team went to find out what it could be. Craig noted the fact nobody seemed to worry, so he just decided to ignore it for now. On the bright side, maybe he could get recognised for his possible discovery. He could get promoted to a more higher role.
Craig smiled to himself, knowing well that he was just dreaming.
Although he hadn't heard from the examination team, he went home at his normal time, knowing it may take some time.
--------Craig's POV--------
I got home, wondering if any progress was made in the team. Hopefully there was at least an idea on what it was or could be by next week when I go back to work.
I turned on the TV, putting it over to the news. While I waited for the headlines to show, I quickly made myself some noodles for dinner. While pouring the noodles into a bowl, I heard my name on the TV.
"NASA scientist and engineer Craig Tucker has discovered what seems to be an unnamed object, coming closer to Earth..."
I went over to the TV. Nothing else was mentioned on what it could be. I shoved a forkful of noodles in my mouth before picking up my phone to call one of my colleagues.
"Hey, Craig speaking. Are you working on the team for the object I discovered?"
"Uhm, yes but it's not looking too good..."
