--------Stan's POV--------

All morning, I couldn't stop thinking about Kyle. Yeah, he was my boyfriend, but something felt different. Not in a bad way though. Ever since he asked me out, I get butterflies everytime I'm around him. I don't know if I'm just nervous or shy.

Today I wouldn't be seeing Kyle for a couple of hours since I was helping at the dog shelter. Usually Kyle would come with me but he had to babysit Ike for a bit.

Luckily the shelter was only a few minutes away so I didn't feel so lone for long. I zipped up my jacket before going into the shelter to keep my shirt free from dog hairs. I smiled as I walked in, seeing all the pups in kennels.

I very quickly decided to take my jacket off since it was getting really warm.

----------------

Stan quickly hung his jacket up before getting fresh water and food for the pups. As he kneeled to set each bowl down, the dogs seemed to be uninterested. Stan found himself shaking his t-shirt to get some ventilation around his skin. It was too warm for the usual snowy temperatures.

Stan sighed and stood back up, but not for long. He fell down on his side, while the pups yelped in their cages.

--------Stan's POV--------

"Jesus, what the fuck?"

I cautiously got up to brush myself off. All the dogs seemed to be scared, younger ones hiding in corners. I went to the front of the shelter, it was really foggy. It reeked of smoke.

I went back in, making sure all the other volunteers and staff were alright. I spotted Karen and helped her up.

"Hey, are you good?"

Karen nodded, but was more curious on what was going on.

"I'm gonna go see what that was..."

"Wait! Can I come with you?"

I turned to Karen and looked at the other staff members. There was enough there to take care of the dogs.

"Alright, stay close."

Karen nodded and got her jacket on. As we headed outside, we both started choking from the lack of fresh air.

"Shit dude, hide your mouth."

I put my jacket over my nose and mouth, in attempt to stop coughing. Karen done the same as we continued to walk closer to where the smoke was coming from.

Soon I eyed up a flame from one of the streets. I felt my breathing hitch, noticing it was my street.

----------------

Karen looked over to Stan. She knew Stan could sense something but she couldn't understand what.

"Stan? Are you okay?"

At this stage, Stan's breathing only got worse with the closer they got. He started hyperventilating as they turned a corner. Now Karen could see why he was panicking.

--------Stan's POV--------

"Stan! Stan, wake up please..."

I yawned and stretched out, gently coughing before allowing myself to open my eyes. I heard Karen sobbing, only making my tired eyes become awake and worried.
