"I'm sorry, children," you silently scoffed at the belittling title Professor Black had for you and Ominis, "but the ceremony simply must be delayed. Aside from Mr. Sallow, no convict has escaped Azkaban since the installment of Dementors. After all, the boy killed his own uncle."
"Sebastian was our friend, professor!" you proclaimed.
"Which is why you two make ridiculously easy targets."
Ominis stood, smashing his hands on the desk. "My family would never—!"
"Your family agreed to this decision, boy. I had a feeling you may interfere, so I spoke with your father in advance."
Ever so slowly, the young Gaunt descended back into his seat. "Wonderful," he hissed, tone dripping with sarcasm.
"I'll be assembling and addressing the entirety of the school this afternoon."
"You cannot trap students here, Black!" you raised your voice again, quickly taking notice of Ominis' empty yet stern stare telling you to keep it together. "Isn't it more dangerous to do so anyway?"
"Hogwarts' security has more to offer than most students' own homes, young lady."
"If it's us you think Sebastian might want, wouldn't it make more sense for Ominis and I to leave the grounds? Don't drag everyone else into this."
"We will hold all students until the next school year if we must. Dark wizards are not to be taken lightly."
"He's not a Dark wizard!" This time, it was your turn to shoot out of your seat. "I refuse to trust the Ministry with this task, you stubborn...stubborn man! Send me to find him instead!"
"I cannot allow a student to do such a preposterous thing."
"Why didn't you do this when Ranrok and Rookwood were on the loose?"
"I think you're forgetting one crucial detail," he stated, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Sebastian Sallow is a former Hogwarts student."
"Actually, Headmaster Black, it's you who is forgetting a crucial detail," Ominis cleared his throat. "My friend and I are both eighteen and of age to perform magic outside the school. You don't really have the ability to keep tabs on us at all times. If you don't agree to this, we may still take matters into our own hands. By delaying graduation, you are creating more work for yourself."
"Yeah," you chuckled triumphantly. "Who needs a silly piece of paper proving we graduated anyway?"
Ominis faintly exhaled, "I mean, I prefer one..."
"Perhaps Ominis and I could be assigned our NEWTs early and graduate a bit ahead of the others. I'm certain all we'd need to do is locate Sebastian and have a little chat with him. He...still trusts us, I'm sure. That way, we will be out of your hair and the school year can end peacefully."
The Hogwarts Headmaster shifted in his seat, crossing one leg over the other and leaning back. "You're quite the manipulative little witch, aren't you?"
"Slytherin's gotta Slytherin," you replied humorously, earning a well-deserved frown from your classmate.
Exasperated, Professor Black sighed. "Do what you will. This school year has been long enough already and," he pointed at you in an accusatory fashion, "you only ever cause trouble. I will delay the assembly of students, but cannot promise any changes in my decision-making." He rose to his feet, using his wand to clean up the broken glass scattered underneath the staircase. "Off with you...before I change my mind!"
