Mugen Rei is a perfectly normal elementary-school student. She has perfect grades, perfect friends, a perfect family.

So why does her own perfection have to go away?

A small ventfic based off of my bsd ability-oc. I just had a not-great sidelines interaction between some friends, and thus am not feeling great.

I'll... Figure out a timeline for this later. Or maybe not. This might become non-canon for Rei. I don't know. (Edit: 85% certain it's non-canon now. Haven't worked out all the timeline kinks yet)

Some of the English-Japanese words that I used may be wrong. If I end up using the wrong term for something, I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know, perhaps give me a mini-lesson on correct usage.
Please note that I'm not trying to stereotype anything here. If something is wrong, feel free to correct me.
Learning a bit of Japanese is a just a little side-project of mine, and I find it easier to remember when I'm actually using it in my writing/typing. :)

"I say that light pinks are the best, like the petals of a sakura. It's such a pretty color, and goes well with the green of the trees and bushes."

"Nu-uh, yellow's better! It's the color of the sun, and yellow is seen much more often in summer than pink! Besides, sakuras bloom in spring, not summer, silly."

Rei smiles as she listens to two of her friends lightly bicker on the best color for a summer dress, happy to just listen in as they pass the time for each of their parents to pick them up. School has been a pleasant experience once again, and she's excited to tell Okaa-san about the high grade she has received on her recent mathematics test.

Right on cue, she looks to see Okaa-san's car pull into the parking lot of her school. Her other friend, the one who is not squabbling, returns her waves as she leaves.

"Kon'nichiwa, Okaa-san! I got a high grade on my mathematics test."

Okaa-san praises her, and she keeps her smile as she pulls out a small sketchbook to continue the drawing of her family's cat, that she had started during her arts class.

Long after they have returned home and she has eaten, Rei rechecks her schoolbag for the upteenth time, just recently recalling how she's supposed to give Okaa-san a letter from her teacher. While she's not certain of the reason, Takahashi-san had told her that it was of utmost importance that she gets that letter to her parents as soon as she can.

While he did tell her to give it to her parents, as in both of them, her Oto-san won't be home for a few more days at least, so she figures that it would be okay if she just gave it to Okaa-san for now.

However, she cannot find the envelope anywhere, though she could've sworn that she put it in there. Racking her brains, she tries to remember if she had even taken it out after that short meeting, only to pull up on a blank.

What if Takahashi-san gets mad at her for losing his letter? He'll tell Okaa-san, and then Okaa-san will get mad at her for messing up! She doesn't want Okaa-san to be mad at her, because then she won't be allowed to play until she makes it up to everyone involved.

Rei sniffles, wishing that she could have that letter.

An envelope flutters down in front of her, landing daintily on her futon.

She blinks twice, then looks up.

Right above the envelope is a hole, about the size of her head. However, the hole doesn't open into the insides of the roof above her head, or even to the sky above. Instead, she can see the roof of Takahashi-san's classroom - recognizable by the star constellations that he has scattered along it.

She stands, slowly taking a few steps backwards. The hole doesn't move, remaining on that spot of the ceiling. The letter had come down shortly after she had wished for it, so she tries wishing for the hole to go away.

In the blink of an eye, the hole to Takahashi-san's classroom ceiling is gone, and her ceiling is back to normal.

She pokes the letter with a stick she has kept, flipping it over to see Takahashi-san's neat writing right where she remembers it to be last.

In a moment of brief contemplation, she wishes for mochi.

Right in front of her, another hole opens up, and mochi drops out of it.

She recoils, scrambling back from the reappeared hole.

She remembers listening to Okaa-san about people with.. odd abilities. She had seemed rather distasteful of them at the time, but maybe it'll be okay if she tells her about these holes that she can make?

No, who is Rei kidding, of course not. Okaa-san would never approve - besides, these holes broke all the perfect normals that she has known throughout her life.

Despite her youth and trust in Okaa-san, Rei isn't stupid. Just keep quiet and pretend that nothing has changed, and everything will be alright.
