Oliver

Standing near the wall, I tried not to make it obvious I was watching the door. I'd look off the side, down the floor, even up at the ceiling ... just trying to make out that I was chilled out, although the anxious twisting in my stomach told me differently.

The lights were dimmed, the glitterball casting sparkles across the floor of the decorated gymnasium. Soft drapes were cascading down the walls in waves, while tea lights weaved in between them. The decorating committee had obviously put their all into the decorations and it showed.

The DJ was playing some random popular song over the speakers. Couldn't remember the name of the song, but it didn't stop me from bobbing my head to the beat while I watched the door. Well, pretended not to watch the door.

Back to pretending again.

Fuck.

The door opened.

I stopped.

Held my breath.

Was it ...

A couple of girls walked in, giggling.

I blew out a breath and rolled my eyes.

Where was he?

He wouldn't leave me here alone ... would he?

Rather than dwell on that depressing thought, I let my eyes roam over the people standing around.

Jenson was leaning against the wall, Caleb standing close to him, talking while Jenson hung on to his every word. Both of them were dressed in suits and looked absolutely gorgeous.

Finn and Mason were chatting with Chloe and Amber, both girls watching the guys with wide eyes. Amber's soft dress was green, complimenting Mason's grey suit. Chloe was wearing a gold dress, making her look like the princess she was.

Dylan and a couple of the footballers were hanging out near the drinks table looking shifty as hell. No doubt there was more than just fruit in the punch bowl now.

Chuckling, I shook my head.

Here I was, at my senior prom, waiting for my date to show up.

My male date.

It all felt ... like it wasn't actually happening.

Almost like it wasn't really real.

School was over.

College was coming.

And I was openly in some sort of relationship with a guy.

If someone had told me that this was how I would end my school life, I would have laughed at them.

Then worry about how the fuck they knew I was gay.

I went to run a hand through my hair, but stopped just as I felt the strands tickle my fingers. I'd styled my hair purposely tonight. I wasn't about to ruin it. I wasn't going to let anyone near my hair this evening.

Not even Jenson.

It wasn't like he even knew I was here, anyway. His whole attention had been on Caleb.

Stealing a glance in their direction, I smiled as I watched Caleb run a finger down Jenson's cheek, a soft smile playing on his lips. Jenson stared at him in complete awe, his eyes sparkling. A group of girls were standing off to the side, watching the couple and cooing over them.

Feeling guilty at watching such an intimate moment between my best friend and his date, I let my eyes fall away and back towards the door.

I saw him then.
