Tatum Greene was pretty sure that Jamie Tartt was going to actually kill her.
Because not only did she not tell him that she was taking a cab by herself, she didn't tell him that she was even back in the same country as him.
It was for a good reason, she justified, as she got ready for the team house party Dani was hosting. The details had been sent in the team group chat, and she had gotten more than her fair share of complaints when she shared that her flight from New York to England wasn't until two days later.
But the longer she thought about it, the more she realized just how much she missed them. She, admittedly, had been slightly pouty at the fact that she was missing the team kickoff party, and after three days of watching her mope around, Tommie had changed her flight so she would get back to Richmond hours before the party started.
Though she was exhausted from a long day a travel, she felt a bolt of excitement shoot through her as the cab pulled to a stop outside Dani's expensive, footballer-salary house.
A pang of nerves hit her, too, at the realization that Jamie would be in attendance. They hadn't spoken in person since he dropped her off at the airport following the night he had shown up at her apartment and she had practically dragged him to bed.
She had made a pinky promise that they would sort through the details of their precarious relationship when she returned from America, but it didn't mean she was too thrilled to go through with it.
Dani's front door was unlocked, and she let herself in as she tried to banish her worries. It was Jamie, after all, and if there was one person she didn't have to worry about hurting her, it was him.
But logical thinking wasn't always her best skill.
"The fuck?" Isaac was the first to spot her, beer bottle in his grip and face twisted into one of complete confusion.
"Surprise!" Tate shouted, moments before she was nearly tackled in a hug from the party host himself. She grinned brightly at Dani, pressing a kiss to his cheek before she was handed off to greet the next player in similar fashion, until she was standing before Jamie and it felt as if her heart was going to beat out of her chest.
"Hi, love," Jamie grinned, pulling her in for an inconspicuous hug that she felt in her very core. Face flushing, she tried so incredibly hard not to think about her last night in Richmond. What she and Jamie had done.
"Blond, huh?" She teased, unable to keep herself from tugging on a strand of his newly dyed hair that hung on his forehead. Jamie scrunched his nose up, an action that warmed her chest in an entirely new way. But her adoration was cut short as he reached out a hand to pinch her side in reprimand for her words, and she jolted away from him half a step.
"It's walnut mist, and you fuckin' know it is." He huffed, and she knew he would be pouting if he wasn't still in shock that she was standing before him. Tate rolled her eyes, suddenly all too aware of everyone's attention on them.
"Missed you guys a little too much to wait any longer," Tate explained her sudden appearance, graciously accepting the drink Colin made her. She didn't sip it, because she knew whatever was in the cup was mixed far too strong for her liking. "Tommie also got sick of me and changed my flight earlier."
"Tell Tommie I said hi, yeah?" Isaac grinned, not deterred by how his previous attempt to get close to Tommie had gone the night they had all gone to a club. Tate rolled her eyes, amused that Isaac had brought up her sister so quickly when she had spent half of the off season fielding Tommie's questions about him. Before she could get out her taunt, though, Sam finally rounded the corner into the room where half the team had gathered, his face brightening as he spotted her.
