"I can't take back things that's already happened!"
Tate's brows pinched together in confusion as she heard Isaac's shout, rounding the corner into the locker room. She spotted the captain instantly, and grew even more confused as she saw just how worked up he and Sam were.
"Hey, hey! Fellas, what's wrong?" Ted yelled over the chaos, him and Beard exiting their office at the same time Jamie slipped into the locker room.
"Coach, we just heard the most upsetting rumor." Sam clarified as Tate crossed the room so she could stand beside Jamie. It might not have been the best move in regards to them keeping their relationship secret, but she felt just a bit better as her hand brushed against his intentionally.
"Okay," Ted started slowly, shooting Beard a knowing look. "Is this about us getting Zava?"
"We're getting Zava?" Bumbercatch's disbelieving question was mirrored across the locker room, and Tate's eyes widened at the possibility. Zava was... he was a legend. He made playing football look effortless, though his off-pitch presence seemed too over-the-top for her taste.
And she was dating Jamie fucking Tartt.
"I just wished for that thirty seconds ago." Dani grinned brightly, and Tate felt the expression mirrored on her face in response to his excitement. The locker room broke out into cheers, except for Jamie, who started nervously pulling at the bottom of his kit and voicing his complaints to Ted.
"Hold on a second, okay?" Ted yelled over the chaos once more, and the room fell into a tentative silence. "If y'all weren't talking about Zava, what were you so upset about? Is it 'cause Trent Crimm's writing a book about us?"
"Wait, Trent Crimm's writing a book about Zava joining our team?" Colin asked, his face scrunched in confusion that matched the rest of his teammates. Tate tilted her head to the side, endeared by how aloof he was.
"No, he's just coming here to write a book about the team."
"Zava's writing a book about us?" Bumbercatch's excitement was almost on par with Dani's and Tate pinched the bridge of her nose, already knowing how the conversation was going to quickly devolve.
"No, Trent Crimm."
"Why would Zava write a book about Trent Crimm?" Zoreaux shouted, and Tate had to turn and press her face into Jamie's arm to smother her amused laughter at his dramatic reaction. Shouting carried throughout the locker room once more, though she spotted Isaac scratching his head and Sam shrugging, the two seemingly incapable of understanding what their coach had been trying to explain.
"Okay, hold on a second." Ted shouted over the arguments for a third time, earning the attention of his players. "If y'all didn't know about Zava, which may or may not happen, and y'all didn't know about Trent Crimm, which is happening, then what were you so worked up about?"
An uncomfortable silence fell over the room, and Tate tilted her chin up to look at Jamie for answers. Only, he just shrugged, seemingly as confused as her.
"Roy and Keeley broke up," Jan Maas finally broke the quiet, and Tate felt herself wince.
Though she already knew about the situation.
Beard screamed, and Ted started to fall over as if he was passing out, causing Jamie to launch away from her in attempt to catch his head coach.
"Sorry, no, I'm okay." Ted waved off Jamie and Beard's help, and Tate wasn't sure if he was being dramatic or that was his actual, physical reaction to the news. "Got a little light-headed there."
