She stood there as multiple maids surrounded her, muttering under their breaths about something she really didn't want to pay attention to. So many unfamiliar hands were on her that she felt awfully jittery. Having gotten used to only Yuriko and another maid helping her with her kimono in the past, Hinata frowned as their frantic hands worked quickly.
Sakura sat to the side, already finished with her preparations for the night's dinner. Her hair was styled in a way that made it look extremely short, new kenzashi placed in her hair with minimal makeup on her skin. Her kimono was white and pink with cherry blossoms embroidered on it. Fit for someone with her name.
"I'm so hungry." She muttered and picked at her nails, staring at the robes that adorned her sister. "I feel like I could eat an entire pig."
"Did you skip breakfast?"
"Yeah, Momo delivered my breakfast whilst I was packing but I was so occupied with it that I forgot to eat." She pouted. "I hope there's a lot of food for dinner."
Hinata nodded in gratitude once her hair and clothes were finally finished being touched up on. She had refused any makeup since she did not want to be washing her face any longer than she needed to after their dinner. Earning a whistle from Sakura, she raised her eyebrow at the odd display of praise.
"You look gorgeous." She stood up and walked around her, touching the fabric of the multicoloured fabric.
Her kimono was dark blue, matching her hair. It had some white lilies and lavender flowers sewed on and some gold embroidery. Her hair was let down, with just a small braid acting as a crown adorned with golden hairpins.
She wasn't one for such extravagance but even she had to admit that she looked different — in a good way. Hinata could only recall one moment during a celebration within her clan that she had been made to wear multiple expensive layers with such fine detail.
"You as well." She offered her sister a soft smile.
"Are you ready to go, Lady Hinata and Lady Sakura?" One of the maids said with their heads bowed to avoid their gaze.
Frowning at the odd display, Hinata reached out and tapped her chin to make her raise her head. She didn't like when people lowered themselves for her sake. She was not royalty, and even if she was, she wouldn't demand them to treat themselves as servants rather than as her equal in some way.
The maid blushed and raised their head slightly, avoiding her eyes. Hinata's face was emotionless, and for those who didn't quite understand her meek nature, they would think of her to be rather rude.
"Yes, we are." Hinata nodded.
Sakura watched the display, butterflies flapping their wings all around her stomach. Unknown to Hinata, in that moment, she was surrounded by such a strong aura of warmth and sternness that it made everyone in the room feel rightfully flustered.
"I will show you the way to the dining hall." The maid bowed and opened the door for the two. Her blush didn't leave her face, nor could she look at her peers who also shared the same look.
The two sisters followed behind the small group, talking amongst themselves — Sakura carried the conversation whilst Hinata nodded along.
Never had they seen a place so bright before, the Palace seemed to glow as they made their way across the courtyard. Every small structure within the walls [except the guard stations] were carefully lit.
They entered the familiar foyer leading to the dining hall, the maids having come to a full stop as they stood in front of the large doors. As if on cue, the doors opened to reveal a newly decorated dining hall. Gone were the multiple sections and tables, instead, only a long table was placed in the middle of the room with four cushions around it.
