Hi everyone. Sorry there was a bit of a delay in writing. Honestly I've taken the time to write out a plan on what I want to do and see with this story, so now that it is done, hopefully I can put out more entries frequently.

Hope you enjoy. thank you for your support!

Dear future best friend,

For the first week of school, I would sit at the lunch table with some random girl from one of my classes and her friends. It was ok I guess. They didn't really talk to me and I just kind of felt like I was intruding a bit on their conversations about classes and boys they like. They've never been rude to me, but you can just tell I don't really fit in with them.

Today while heading toward their table, I noticed an empty table with only one person sitting at. She was in a long wooly sweater even though it's the end of summer and is pretty warm outside. All the other tables were crowded except for this one with just her.

Without thinking I go and sit by her. She had tears on her face. I asked her if she was ok.

She looked up at me in shock that someone was there. I asked her if she was struggling finding people to sit with too. She didn't talk, just kind of looked down.

I told her she doesn't have to be alone. I tried to engage in conversation, but she just stayed quiet barely touching her food.

I remember wondering if I should get up and go somewhere else. I couldn't tell if I was bugging her. I'm sure I was because that's all I seem to do.

I told her I was sorry for bothering her and get up. She grabbed my shirt and said just 3 words "No. Please. Stay".

She had an accent. I was trying to figure out where she was from.

I asked her if she had a name. She said "Tia".

I talked her ear off for the rest of lunch and she was quiet. She stayed looking down at her food not wanting to make eye contact with me.

I think Tia is like me: a person without a friend.

I found out later that Tia got transferred to my biology class. They introduced her as our new foreign exchange student from Russia.

I tried to wave at her in biology class, but she just looked straight ahead and went to her desk and laid her head on her book.

I'm sure it's hard being a foreign exchange student at high school going in completely blind to meeting new people. Some people start school knowing others and it's easy for them to mesh into this new world. Let me tell you high school IS a new world. I'm only a week in, and I can already tell that.

I can't tell if Tia likes me, but it hurt me seeing her at that table all by herself. I mean all the other tables were full and packed, and not one person went over to her when she was clearly crying to check on her?

I hate high schoolers.
