5:33 blinks brightly from the digital alarm clock on my nightstand as I groan and roll over, feet planting on the floor as I get up from my short nap. I'm still hoping that the boyfriend news from Father was all just a dream, but when I check my phone, the incoming messages from May roll in almost immediately.

May

You're not going to believe it, but my mom and father
just assigned me some random bf

What? Who? Why? When?

My literal own mom said, and I quote, that I was
"hoeing around". Can you believe that?

I mean from her perspective I see why.
They're prob going to talk about it tonight,
so just wait a little longer

Yeah, okay. See you in like an hour

May Simmes has been my best friend since 4th grade, although it's a miracle our friendship lasted this long since our personalities are almost the exact opposite. Or at least, they used to be. May was the type of girl who would always invite people over to hangout, or constantly be at parties-even when she wasn't invited. Eventually, her outgoing antics reached me, and I haven't stopped going out since. And I have to admit, it was pretty nice to get out of my comfort zone. Our friendship had started when she realized that we both had names that were based off of months, and she immediately went up to me to ask to be friends and hangout at recess. Obviously, I couldn't say no, my 4th grade self was obsessed with her and how she was able to talk in front of people without getting scared.

I blame it for the types of households we grew up in.

The Simmes were always very sweet people, and ever since May and I first became friends, they've always made me feel like I belong in their family. Get togethers and parties are so often in their home that at this point, it's basically a party house. Their family owns a ton of amusement parks, aquariums, and waterparks around the world.

My family liked to keep to themselves, especially in business. Father usually worked alone, without any company, and family dinners were rare. I knew from a young age that unless Father talked to you first, you don't talk to him unless he's in a good mood-which is almost never. Mom, on the other hand, was always free to talk and loved hanging out with me and Theo, cuddling on the couch and watching movies. But she also refused to be a stay at home parent, which led to her having a full-time job as a teacher. Father didn't approve of the idea, but he realized soon that there was nothing he could do to stop her.

Since we're eating at the Simmes' newest aquarium tonight, I decided to wear a light blue romper with white flowers to the dinner. White wedge sandals and a pearl necklace add to the outfit and I check how I look in the full body mirror leaning against my wall.

"April, you ready?" Theo peeks his head into my room, hair combed and gelled back.

"Yeah," I turn around, "who are you all dressed up for? I thought it was a normal dinner."

Theo smiles, "Had extra time and was bored." Liar. He's been in love with May since forever, but she's never reciprocated the feelings, and honestly, I'm glad she hasn't. My brother with my best friend? That would be absolute torture. Who would I hangout with every night? Who would I complain about my brother to?

I walk out of my room to join Theo and follow him to the living room where Mom is sitting down on the couch, immersed in a random TV commercial about sponges.

She turns around for a quick second and glances at my outfit, "Amor, you look adorable!" She blows kisses my way before becoming busy watching her ads again.

I join her on the couch, Theo following along, and I scroll on my phone until Father comes out of his office.

"Ready to go? I just finished my meeting." Father asks, immediately taking his phone out to check his notifications.

I exchange a glance with Theo and we both look at Father and nod. I then grab the remote, turn off the TV, and walk out of the house to the garage.

We all get into the car, Father driving, and May then texts me as I'm scrolling through Instagram.

May

OMG, my parents just told me about it.
He's like really famous apparently and has
tons of fangirls. Good luck April
