Forever

The sun is shining high in the sky and the water is a perfect azure blue. Jay and Nya have rented a yacht for the afternoon. They are standing on the deck, Jay at the helm. Nya is looking over the edge and down at the water, and she sees something. "Jay, look, dolphins!"

Jay looks over to see them too, and smiles. "Yeah, I saw them when we were coming in. They were following us for a while, but I think they were more interested in the fish we brought for lunch. Are you going to talk to them?"

"I will if they want to, but I was kind of thinking that it might be nice if you and I could have some time just the two of us. You know, no one else to interrupt." Nya gives him a playful smile.

Jay turns the yacht towards a small, private island and they head over. When they reach the island, Jay drops the anchor. They both go to the side, and jump over, swimming the short distance to the beach.

Once they are there, they walk down the beach. Jay, grabs Nya's hand, his fingers entwining with hers. He looks at her, smiling. She returns the look. Jay pulls her closer, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, and he kisses her forehead. She feels a shiver race down her spine and into her toes.

"This is our last day here. I'm kind of sad we have to leave tomorrow, but I'm also getting homesick for Ninjago."

Nya leans against him as they walk. "Yeah, I think I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to seeing everyone again. I'm sure they'll have tons of stories to tell us when we get back. Kai and Lloyd especially. Did you see them? It was like they were intentionally trying to make everyone mad, like you."

Jay chuckles, pretending not to be slightly offended by Nya's subtle jab. "I know, they were getting into all kinds of trouble, weren't they?"

"Kai especially. I don't think I've ever seen Cole so irritated."

"Yeah, but I'm sure he'll get over it quickly enough. What about you, what was your favorite part about our vacation?"

"Hmmm..." Nya pauses for a second, thinking. "I'm not sure if I could pick just one. The resort itself was great, but spending this time alone with you was the best."

Jay's face lights up, and Nya giggles, giving him a little kiss.

They continue walking along the beach, talking and enjoying each other's company. Waves lap against the shore, and the gulls call from above.

After a while, they make their way back to the boat, and get ready to leave the island. Nya sits on the bow, looking out to sea as they cruise across the ocean.

They eventually arrive back at the resort. Jay pulls up to the dock, and ties the boat to the pier. They step onto the dock, and head for the hotel.

"You know, this really was a perfect getaway." Jay says as he pushes the door open for Nya.

"It really was. It's going to be hard to go back to normal life after this."

"Yeah, but you can bet we'll get to do this again sometime."

"I'm going to hold you to that." Nya says with a smile.

"Although, you were quite gloomy when we first arrived."

"Hey! That's because I had just lost my powers," Jay snaps playfully, trying to defend himself. "You know how it feels."

Nya pauses for a second, dark eyes meeting his, before she lets out a long sigh. Her gaze drops, her hand reaches out and finds his. Their fingers interlock as her other hand gently caresses his cheek.

"It does hurt. It hurts so much." She moves closer to him, their bodies pressed against each other.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you like how you helped me," Jay whispers, his lips brushing against hers.

"Considering what you all went through to get me back, I think I'll let you off the hook this time," she teases.

Jay leans down and kisses her tenderly, their tongues dancing together, savoring the taste of one another.

When they break apart, they're both flushed. They stand there, gazing into each other's eyes, lost in the moment.

Then Nya takes a deep breath. "We should probably pack."

"Yeah. We're leaving first thing tomorrow morning."

Jay walks to their room, and starts to take out his luggage. He packs his clothes, and then grabs his toothbrush. He puts everything into his suitcase, except for the clothes he'll wear tomorrow.

He glances at Nya. She is putting her clothes into her suitcase, and packing her toiletries. She looks at him, and smiles.

"It's been a great week," Jay says.

"Yeah. I wish it didn't have to end. But it was fun while it lasted. What are you going to do when we get home?"

"Probably hang out with the guys. See what everyone's been up to. I'll have to check on my parents. See how they're doing. And, you know, see how everyone else is."

Nya finishes packing, and then walks over to him. She sits on the bed beside him.

"It'll be good to see everyone. But I hope we'll still get some time together. Just the two of us."

"Of course. I'll make sure we do. You know how much I love you."

"Yeah, and I love you too." Nya leans against him, wrapping her arm around his waist.

They sit like that for a while, watching the sun set.

"Come on," Jay says, grabbing at her hand, "one last walk on the beach, under the moonlight and stars."

Nya smiles, and lets him pull her up.

They head out the door and make their way back to the beach. They walk along the sand, holding hands, and enjoying the peacefulness.

"Do you think we'll be able to do this again?" Nya asks.

"What, spend a week away from the team?"

"No, I mean, do you think we'll be able to live like this one day?"

"What, without having to worry about saving the world?"

"Yeah."

Jay sighs, "I hope so. But I doubt it. There's always going to be someone out there who needs our help. Someone who needs to be saved."

Nya stops, and looks up at him. "I guess you're right."

Jay wraps his arms around her. "But until then, we'll just have to enjoy the moments we have together."

They stand there, wrapped in each other's embrace, watching the waves roll in.

"I'm going to miss this."

"Me too," Nya agrees. "But, we can always come back."

The moon shines high overhead, casting its resplendent light on the lovers.

"That's true," Jay says, smiling.

Nya snuggles closer to him, resting her head against his chest.

Jay runs his hand through her hair, enjoying the feeling of her close to him.

They stand there, enjoying the feeling of being together. Their elemental powers warble and hum in resonance, content to have found each other again.

It is a peaceful moment, a moment that they will remember for a lifetime.

It is a moment that will last forever.
