You had been single far too long, and trying to meet men the usual way was causing you to pull your hair out. You finally stated to your friends that you were giving up on finding love all together. However, they were all sad to see you become so jaded. As a surprise, they set you up for a blind date on Valentine's Day. Everything was taken care of for you. A light dinner, a movie, and the man.
While you were not initially thrilled with the idea of being "gifted" a blind date, they had assured you that you were in for a good time. You cleaned yourself up, put on your favorite date night outfit and headed out. Now that you were here, you fiddled with your hands in front of the water fountain at the park, nervously waiting for your date to arrive. You checked your phone to look at the picture your friends had sent, wondering what he would really be like...
The image on your phone was of a rather jovial older man, cropped to exclude another man with long blue hair that almost looked like he was being forced into a headlock of a hug. You chewed on your lip as you studied the features of his face—the scars over his left eye, his mop of red hair, the way his face wrinkled as he laughed—Shanks was stunning. However, in the pit of your gut you felt uneasy.
Makino had set up everything. Shanks was a regular at her bar, and while she could vouch for his character, it was a little concerning to you at the age gap. He was not old or anything, but the difference was a bit worrying. What would you two even have in common? Still, he was smoking hot. The word DILF came to mind.
A loud burst of laughter erupted from the public chess tables, and you spun your head quickly to spot a group of old men sitting around the tables. It must have been a heated match, as one half of them were shouting, and the other half were cheering. However, the loudest laughter of all came from a tall man with a very muscular build and bright crimson hair. You recognized him from the photo instantly, and your heart beat a little faster.
Shanks sat as the opposition of the chess table everyone seemed to be debating, boisterously teasing the gentleman across from him with one hand on his knee and a heavy black leather coat over his left shoulder. Makino told you he had lost his arm rescuing a young boy a long time ago, which was very admirable, and you figured he did not care to show it to others much. The man across from him was yelling something, but you could not make it out from this distance. Even with the obvious anger being tossed at him, Shanks was smiling softly, just listening. But then he looked directly at you, as if he had known you were standing there the whole time.
