~ Then ~
July 19th

Angelina and Jeremiah had just arrived at a gas station in Albany, New York when she got the phone call. She had been wondering when he was going to call. She was honestly surprised it took him this long to realize she was gone.

Angelina was leaning against her car as she pumped gas while Jeremiah was inside the store getting snacks for the long hours ahead. Angelina turned on the gps for San Francisco, California. Two and half hours down, about forty-four more hours to go. She stared at his caller ID photo as her phone buzzed and finally answered. "Con-"

"Lina!" she heard Conrad yell through the phone. "Where the hell are you? And don't you dare tell me Jere is with you. Everyone is going crazy looking for the both of you."

She sighed, "I already texted Julian about ten minutes ago my whereabouts. We're okay." As soon as she texted Julian, she received a text from Cristian saying he told his mom and if they needed a place to stay, her house was open for them in California. Cristian's mom was always kind to her when they were kids. Nothing in comparison to her mother. Angelina greatly took a small appreciation for her friendship with Cristian.

"We? Why Jere, Lina? Why didn't you ask me to come with you?" She heard the pain in his voice as guilt swarm through her. Her original plan was to come alone. It wasn't something she had in mind when she begged Jeremiah to come along.

"Jeremiah is my boyfriend, Con," Angelina said. This is first time she said it to anyone and oddly, it felt right given the circumstances of the last couple of days.

There was a paused and she heard Conrad let out a deep sigh, "boyfriend? Lina, we start college in two weeks. Your dad wanted you to experience the college life, unattached to anyone. To have fun."

Angelina felt her body stiffen. She knew what her dad wanted of her. She's heard it all her life. But she didn't need her best friend throwing it back at her. She heard the little ring above the store door and saw Jeremiah walking towards her with bags full of snacks. "Fun? Fun? My dad died Con, how much fun can I possibly have," she paused letting out a small sigh. "Look, I have to go. I will keep Julian informed so you don't have to worry about where me and my boyfriend are going. Tell Susannah I'm sorry."

She hung up as Jeremiah stood in front of her with a smile. "Who was that on the phone?" He asked curiously.

"Con," Angelina frowned looking down. She didn't mean to get upset with Conrad. She knew he was also dealing with a lot, but she need him to act like her best friend and not as something more.

Jeremiah quickly set the bags on the floor and softly placed her hands on her shoulders looking at her concerned. "Hey, whatever Conrad said, he probably didn't mean it in a bad way. He cares for you, Angel. We all do."

He ran his hand up her shoulder grazing past her neck to her jaw. He gripped slightly, tilting her chin up so their eyes can lock. Her brown doe-eyes staring right into him. She looked so conflicted, it made his heart ache. "I bought your favorite chocolate by the way, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups."

He pulled her body into his slightly. "Let's get you to San Francisco and cause a little mayhem, what do you say?" A tiny smile formed on Angelina's face and Jeremiah grinned wide seeing the small glint of mischief that he loved reappear.

Angelina leaned up crashing her lips against his. Jeremiah felt a rush of heat course throughout his body. He ran his hand down to her neck, gripping it slightly as Angelina allowed his tongue access.

They pulled apart as Jeremiah rested his forehead against hers, his breathing increasing. "Now get in the car, because the faster we arrive, the faster I can get you in a hotel room," he winked.

She lightly slapped his chest and laughed, "Jeremiah! You're ridiculous."

"Yeah, but you love me," he yelled out smirking as she walked towards the passenger side of car.

Angelina got in the passenger seat as Jeremiah took the pump out of the car and grabbed the bags of snacks from the ground. He got into the driver seat and handed the bags of snacks to Angelina.

"You're right about that Jeremiah, te amo," Angelina said looking over at him.

Jeremiah reached over grabbing hold of her hand that laid against her thigh as he began driving off. "And, I love you," Jeremiah said grinning.

He had know Angelina all his life, though it was only for the summers, but this year, he will finally get her throughout the school year too. And with the trouble times ahead, Jeremiah was glad she would be right along side of him.
