One afternoon, Pete heard a small voice, not knowing where it was coming from, he went to go and ask one of the people that had told him the stories of the cave, because he knew that voices were heard by those who would travel down. He was told to ignore the voice, it only brought trouble, but the more he ignored it, the louder it got.
"Follow me," it would say, "We can give you everything you ever dreamed of," He ignored it, "You can make it, I know you can," He still ignored it, but after weeks of it getting louder, it stopped. The last thing it said was, "I'm begging you, please, follow me." After that, it stopped, but his curiosity peaked. He snuck out, on his own, knowing that if he died, he couldn't bring anyone with him and make them suffer with him. He took an old map that still had the cave on it and went on his way. When he saw the cave's opening, covered with wood and rocks that had grown moss from all the time they were left untouched, he heard the little voice again, "I knew you could make it." He looked around to see if he could find the source, he found something he'd only ever heard of in stories. A very small, humanoid creature with bright, almost glowing, butterfly-like wings. He had been told they had died off a long time ago, he couldn't believe his eyes.
"W-wah?" He tried to grasp what was going on, but he was failing. After all, he was seeing something that, to his knowledge, did not exist. "Are you? Am I? What?''
The small creature laughed, "I am, you are, that," It responded jokingly, "I'm glad you followed me thank you."
"That was, you?" He asked.
"It may have been," It said, "It may have not been, but is that really what you want to know?" It seemed to be trying to mislead him or keep him on target, he could not tell.
"I guess not," He sighed, "Why did you bring me here, what do you want?" He wanted answers, and he wasn't going to do anything until he got them.
"I did not bring you here," It said, "you brought you here, I just asked you to follow. I want your help."
"Help with what? I don't even know who, or what, you are!" He exclaimed, "How can I help with something I don't know?"
"You will know when it is time," it said calmly, "for now, you must trust me, can you do that?"
He thought for a moment, "Can I trust it?" he thought, "I surely cannot, but what reason would it have to lie to me?" He considered it, weighing the pros and cons. He knew he could die, but he knew that before he even came out. He did not fear death, what did he have to lose? "All right," he hesitated, "What am I to do?"
"All you are to do is follow without question," It said, "Now help me, we must reach the inside." He, only for a second, was skeptical, after all, he was following a fairytale creature into a cave he had been told never to even look at, but then he went. He pushed away some of the smaller rocks and moved the wood, making a hole with just enough room for him to fit through.
The little creature thanked him and went in, beckoning him to follow. In the first few seconds, he knew what he was doing was wrong, that he should not be here, he should have listened to the adults and just ignored it, but it was too late now. He kept walking, against his better judgment, and soon they found themselves in darkness, not even the light from the opening could shine through this. They did not stop, though he wanted to, he wanted to run back, apologize for breaking the rules, and never come back, but that wasn't an option now, it was too late, he didn't know his way back and he had decided to trust the little creature. As suddenly as the darkness began, it ended. The cave was illuminated by crystals. He wanted to touch them, but something told him not to, because it wasn't right, and he listened and kept his hands to himself. After that he felt a bit of warmth, coming from the crystals.
