Ch. 5: Boys Have Coodies Girls are Cuties

Meredith's POV:

It's the middle of July. Charlie has been gone for a month maybe more, I don't know. Charlie iris messages me sometimes and we talk for a bit and I'll catch him up on Camp Half-Blood gossip but then he has to leave for his big quest.

Zoe sends me letters sometime and I read most of them. I've been spending most of my time either training or in the bunker with Ellie. I'm just trying to keep myself busy mostly.

Right now I'm on my way to the bunker. I just finished combat training and Ellie told me she had news and to meet her there immediately. I entered the pass code and walked into the bunker.

Almost immediately I was tackled by Ellie.

"What the heck?" I said standing up. Ellie jumped up excitedly.

" I have a boyfriend!" She squealed. I squealed then with her and we did the boyfriend happy dance. We did this a lot because Ellie likes having a boyfriend but she they are never right for her so she moves on. We were both still waiting for the right guy who could get past her little quirks and be just sweet.

"Who is it?" I asked as we sat in the bean bag chairs set up.

"Welllllllllll," she says sounding nervous all of a sudden.

"Oh great is it that super annoying kid who always..." I started.

"It's your brother, its Tristan," she blurts out. She says like she is waiting for me to scream at her. I was a tad disgusted but I knew my brother wasn't a jerk and I trusted him more than any other guy I knew. I mean this made sense because they had been having a weird relationship for awhile. I guess my brother finally got the guts to ask her out.

"Well i'm happy for you," I said giving her a little hug. I saw her shoulders relax.

"So you're not...ya know...mad or anything...?" She asked hesitantly.

"Haha no, I'm not mad. You two are cute together and I'm really happy for both of you," I said.

"So back to your love life!" Ellie laughed. "how are you and Charlie?"

"I don't really know. I mean we talk and stuff but we've gotten farther apart somehow. Like I'm not sure he still likes me like that..." i trailed off.

"Oh pel-ease! You're being so dramatic and taking this too far!" Ellie said. "of course he still likes you he just feels guilty for breaking your promise, a promise that you should've expected to be broken I might add, and sad he can't be with you all summer."

"Yeah I guess you're right. I mean its just that I was so looking forward to this summer together and I thought, maybe just maybe he would finally ask me out."

It was silent for a moment until I added,

"I have been talking to Alex more though." I said. Alex was a boy from my school who had a slightly obvious crush on me. We had been talking on the phone and I had left camp a couple of times to visit him, it was nice. He even asked me to the end of summer dance. I said yes. I mean I really wanted to go with Charlie but I couldn't go without a date and I didn't think Charlie would be back in time for it.

"I know Alex is a nice guy, and I know you really like him but come on though, Meredith, you are in love with Charlie. He makes one mistake. can you really blame him? He is a legacy of one of the Big Three so are you. Did you expect your lives to be easy?" Ellie asked. She had a point.

"I forgive him, and I never said I had a crush back on Alex, but it's still nice talking to him," I say.

"Alex isn't Charlie," Ellie sang.

"No, but he is a nice boy that likes me. Plus I already told him I'd go with him to the dance," I said.

"That's true." Ellie said thoughtfully, "Anyways, i have to go meet Tristan."

"See ya later," I said.

"See ya." she says while running out the door.

I sit there for a minute thinking. I'm stupid. Charlie did only make one mistake. Why am I such a drama queen? Something tells me that Aphrodite has been messing with me.

I felt right there I owed him an apology. I walked to my cabin and started writing the letter.

Dear Charlie,
I'm sorry that I got mad at you because I didn't mean it. I know I was really dramatic and that it was stupid for me to be mad. I forgive you even though I should have forgiven you the night I found out you were leaving. We could of made the best of the few days of summer we had. I guess I ruined that and I'm really sorry. Please come home safe soon and tell Zoe I said hi.

I sealed the envelope and put it in the Hermes Express mailbox. I then walked to the dining hall for dinner. I put a piece of my food in the fire and sat down next to Tristan.

"Hey," I said biting into my pepperoni pizza.

"Hey," Tristan replies.

"I heard about you and Ellie," I say in a teasing voice.

"Ya what about us?" He says. He really is clueless.

"That you're a couple now!" I say.

"Ohhh that. Ya, I guess it's cool," He says nodding his head slowly. Boys. They just don't get it.

"Well aren't you even a little excited?" I asked setting down my pizza

"Would you just leave it alone?" he says annoyed. I didn't get it.

"Sorry Mister Sassy Pants..." I muttered to myself.

"Look, Meredith, just cause you failed on getting Charlie and that he would rather be on a quest then spend the summer with you doesn't mean that you get to invade on my personal business. Stop bugging me about my relationship and get your own." Tristan says than stands up and walks away.

I looked down ignoring the stares. I was so confused. Tristan had never freaked out on me like that. I didn't mean to invade on his personal space. I just wanted to know what was going on with him and my friend from his point of view.

I got up and left the dining pavilion. I walked to the beach. It reminded me of Charlie and helped me relax. I heard footsteps and felt someone sit down beside me.

"Hey Mere," RJ said.

"Hey Rj," I respond quietly.

"I saw what happened between you and Tristan." He says.

"Ya."

"don't listen to him Mere. Charlie would much rather be here with you than be on a quest. Look, I don't know what is happening with Tristan but I'll go talk to him. Don't fell bad Mere. You didn't even ask that many questions and he just flipped. He just feels a little stressed, its his first relationship," RJ said looking at me. I nod looking at him.

"Thanks RJ. You're the best," I said smiling at him. He smiles back and gets up.

"And thanks for talking to Tristan. I know I shouldn't ask but-"

"Yes, I'll slightly stalk him and let you know everything I hear." RJ says smirking. I laugh. He knows me almost as well as Charlie.

Rj then sat down again beside me watching the waves.
