"White 80"
"White 80 set"
"HUT!"The ball is thrown back and it hits the ground as it slips through my fingers.
"Stop! Cory what the HELL was that?" Coach Franklin yells from the sidelines "The sun has officially fried your brain. That's enough for today, go pack up"
"Cory what's up with you man" Lake says as he punches my shoulder pads, "gotta get your head in the game, I know it's the start of summer but football for life remember"
"Ya sure, easy for you to say when your minds not... preoccupied," I say as my eyes linger over his exposed abs.
Lake has always had the nicest golden brown skin due to the many summers we spent at his parents beach house. His long, wavy, dirty blonde hair that he refuses to cut cascades over his deep brown eyes and thick eyebrows. As he runs, his tall, lean and athletic build is prominent through his bulging quads and flexing biceps.
"Last one to the lockers doesn't get to shower!" Lake yells as he sprints to the lockers with that contagious smile he always wears plastered on his face.
I follow right behind smiling to myself at the crazy way he's always acted. I can't remember a time when I was without Lake Sampson and I'm also not sure when these feelings started towards my longest best friend but I can't hide them anymore.
We jog into the locker room along with the rest of the team who joined our little game of who can make it to the locker room first. Of course I never lose, I'm taller than majority of the team and if I'm to be honest, definitely the most fit too.
About a year ago I decided to buzz my stark blonde hair so I don't have much showering to do anyways.
After the locker room was cleared out and the stench of sweaty players died down, the only two people left were me and Lake. He grabbed his bag out of his locker and closed it before taking a seat across from me on the bench, our knees touching.
After a few beats of science Lake spoke up, "dude in all seriousness today, what was that?"
I paused, "what do you mean?"
"It's not like you to just drop an easy catch like that. What's on your mind?"
YOU, I thought, but I said "stuff..."
Lake scoffs, "Stuff? Stuff!!? You mean to say you're dropping MY easy throws because of STUFF?"
"Umm... yeah?"
"We've been friends for how long now and you tell me everything! And now you mean to tell me 'stuff'" Lake stands and heads for the door, "yeah, whatever Cory I'll see ya"
I stand immediately to follow him, "Wait! Why are you getting so mad at me?"
"Because Cory!" Lake whips his head around, "because I thought you were gonna... never mind"
Lake opens the door
"See ya tomorrow... bud."
The door slams behind him leaving me alone and standing in the middle of the now lonely locker room.
"What the hell?"
