"You don't remember?"
"I don't recall who he was. A powerful demon, that's for sure. I..." Alexandria hid her face in her hands. "I'm sorry. I'm afraid. He's changed something in me, I can feel it. Something is not as it used to be..."
"It's going to be okay. You're going to be okay."
"His powers drew me in. He was so powerful..."
"You're not like him."
I know. But what if I want to be like him? What if I need to be to protect us from Mortimer, from this world?
Alexandria looked at Aurel without, for the first time, letting him be part of her thoughts. She felt tears rising in her eyes again.
"Take your time.", Connor said. "It's all good. Breathe."
"I feel like I can't."
She fought with tears and until she had caught herself. There was silence in the room.
"She chased him away.", she said then.
"Who?"
"The girl. Kaydence."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely. I started attacking him and she continued, I don't know how, she did some weird thing to him, attacked him with his own life force..."
They looked at the unconscious girl. Her face was pale and if they had not been able to hear her heartbeat, they would have assumed she was dead.
"She looks horrible.", Connor said.
Alexandria nodded. "She does a lot to forget that she can see us."
"She's one of us?"
"She'll be one day. I can feel it.", she said.
Aurel pulled her closer. "She looks fragile."
"You never know how much force a tormented soul can host.", the elf mumbled. "How much it can give you. The output it has. She set everything ablaze. She saved me."
They kept quiet for a minute, then Alexandria got up.
"We need to get going.", she said.
"We do. You guys get to the river, I'll call an ambulance for the girl."
Aurel wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her with him. Next to him she stumbled to the elevator.
Darkness spare me, Aurel, she mumbled. Please forget that you've ever seen me in this condition.

They nodded.
"Did you learn something?"
They nodded.
