"Hey."
Aurel had just gotten back from his run, trying to chase the wolf out of his chest. Now it laid quiet, panting, too exhausted to tear its teeth into his soul.
Alexandria was laying on her bed, her back turned towards him. He sat down next to her.
"Tell me.", she muttered.
"What?"
"Did it change anything?"
He looked at her face. It was hard, determined.
Aurel shook his head. "No."
"They had broken the rules. They wanted to leave."
"That's why he paired us with them. That's why he sent us on that mission. What we were supposed to learn."
"Learn I did." He laid his hand on her shoulder. "I'm not giving up."
"Nor am I."
"We'll leave this place. We'll go to New York. We'll start again."
"We'll make it."
Alexandria wrapped her fingers around his. "We have to. Because they didn't."
